    Real Cops

It was a pleasure to see Tampa PD and FHP in unincorporated Hillsborough handling business like real cops while our units were late to the party and basically of no assistance today for the Amber Alert/ Homicide x31(but what else is new). TPD and FHP were running code to assist each other while our social media conscious millennials stopped at all the red lights or were too busy doing Publix and Walmart 700’s, or doing contact messages on positive Covid-19 patients, while the big boys played in our area.

Only thing we could have handled better on that call than TPD/FHP was to have our deputies who were issued fancy cameras to show up after the dust settled and take some action shots to put on Facebook/Instagram. You know, the staged photos you take of your zone partners saving kittens and alligators, or changing a tire for an elderly couple.

This isn’t an insult to the many hardworking deputies here at HCSO. I know many of you were chomping at the bit to join in and save that child today, but couldn’t due to scared supervisors afraid to be second-guessed by our command staff.

Great post. Same old story. Nothing new with this agency. We had a 45 min “pursuit” a few years ago that started from Progress Village to Plant city headed east. HCSO pusssy footed around like always. No lie, once we crossed Polk County lines, Polk County deputies ended that pursuit in literally 2 minutes. They were hard core. Cursing on the radio and everything. PIT maneuver and x15. Car jacker off the street. A real car jacker too, not some stupid domestic where some guy took his girlfriend's car. Look through some old TPD leo affairs posts back when Curtis and Kokab were killed. TPD were disgusted with us. I mean outraged. They mentioned that every reluctant action we did take, was only to impress our majors and brass.

If you stay out of pursuits, the supervisor doesn’t have to author a report. A review is not conducted. A corporal, sergeant or lieutenant who are each job scared and bucking for another promotion that’s certain to occur every 3 months don’t have to justify their troops’ actions. Nobody in the SOC has to stop their personal business on duty or campaigning to field uncomfortable media inquiries. That’s a lot like cop work. Scary.

Oh, and if you are justified to pursue and things don’t go perfect, you will be disciplined. Catch the bad guy and you are a hero, for the day anyway.
