Don't blame Director Ramirez, he is in the same predicament as all of you are. Miami-Dade County government is led by an incompetent mayor. From the unset of this virulent crisis, the mayor ought to have secure enough protective gear for all Public Safety practitioners; that is the police, corrections, fire/rescue, and all other county personnel coming in contact with people in their own respective Public Safety settings. Gimenez failed his County constituents, despite his claim to have been one of, if not the best city manager Miami ever had. Garbage! During his tenure as Miami city manager, May 2000 to January 2003, Gimenez served under Joe Carollo. In 1997, Miami was under a fiscal crisis and Carollo, being who he is, immediately petition the State for a declaration of Financial urgency, under FSS 447.4095. That meant the State of Florida became the City of Miami's fiscal overseer. To fill the fiscal holes, taxes were increased and union contracts set aside. Under those remedial fiscal conditions, anyone can be a "superlative" manager. [1]

Gimenez has a repugnant look about him and sounds just as repulsive. Though it means Democrats will retain a seat in the House of Representatives, I hope voters in Florida's 26th District totally reject this loathsome man.

The PBA has failed you as well. The leadership should've been shouting and continue to do so demanding protective gear all along. Why have they not? If the PBA has, apologies, but their clamor has been imperceptible.

[1] "With a budget shortfall of $68 Million and its municipal bonds given a junk bond rating by Wall Street, in 1997, Miami became Florida's first city to have a state-appointed oversight board assigned to it. In the same year, city voters rejected a resolution to dissolve the city and make it one entity with Dade County. The City's financial problems continued until political outsider Manny Diaz was elected Mayor of Miami in 2001." Subsequently, in 2003, Diaz asked the "brilliant" Gimenez to "retire," appointing businessman Joe Arriola as the city manager.
