    Bob's biggest weakness

Closing the Beaches exposed Bob's biggest weakness. Once he has it in his mind about something, nobody is going to change it. National Media was zeroing in on Pinellas County Beaches and pointing out the massive crowds that were congregating and not practicing social distancing. The helicoptor footage did show some thinning of the crowds, but also showed congregating. Did he really think that Politicians were going to defend these massive crowds, when businesses are closing, weddings canceled, big funerals, church, canceled, and then the everyday citizen being asked to isolate while thousands are partying on the Beach? Bob then tried to justify not enforcing the ban due to legalities. Dear Bob, voluntary compliance was the goal, not arresting people. It would behoove any Dep that encounters that one group that defies your request to leave the beach, to take no action, unless the Shift Commander comes to the scene and gives you the okay. See, Bob doesnt think it is enforceable. If he thinks that, you better cover your ass, hell if I was the Shift Commander, I would have at least a Assistant Chief present! Even that might not save you, as we know Bob trumps the Assistant Chiefs decisions routinely. Bob's biggest problem, is there is nobody that he will listen to if he has already made up his mind about something.

Once his mind is made up forget it. He always thinks he is the smartest person in the room. Another lesson he learned this week is that he does not run the County. I am sure he felt all the Commissioners would show the same fealty that Kathleen Peters showed when she called him the best Sheriff in America. Surprise her fellow Commissioners did not agree and now Bob is all butt hurt!

Bob operates on his own and listens to no one. He will use every excuse in the world to justify his in actions. He and he alone will ride this issue out and convince his BFF in the media that he is right and others are wrong. Bob would fire or demote anyone who went rouge and gave the media an opinion. It’s time to finally hold him accountable.

I don't think it is a good idea to say something is unenforceable when you are trying to get the masses to comply with a request not to assemble in large crowds. As this virus progresses and the time line of isolation gets extended, people are going to start defying these requests. What are you going to do about it, Sheriff says not enforceable! Most people voluntarily comply with laws but when there is not even the illusion of potential penalties, they will eventually defy your request and start returning to the beach in numbers. This isolation thing will last way beyond two weeks. Watch the NY numbers, gonna see how quickly these numbers will overtake the abilities to manage it. See what the Pinellas numbers are in a couple of weeks.......if they dramatically rise, all those spring breakers undoubtedly had some thing to do with this virus spread.

This is why we need Marshall Law and the National Guard to patrol the streets and enforce the travel ban. Local Law enforcement is not up to the task. This should be the case in all the major cities in Florida before its too late. The governor should have been all over this and Sheriff Bob should have requested the National Guard if he can't handle the job. A lot of incompetence at the top.

Given what we face, a never before encountered scenario, I think discretion is appropriate. The Sheriff has preached discretion and common sense during this pandemic. The OP and his misguided supporters fail to understand that Martial Law is not in effect. And is Martial, not Marshall, you nitwit. And the entire premise of Martial Law is that the US Military is ordered to intervene when the country is under attack or a major disaster has surpassed local government’s ability to maintain order. There is no order in place, so for now and the foreseeable future we are using discretion to maintain order. All things being equal we are managing this mess as well as we can. And thank God the OP is not in a position of authority to push an agenda of suppression out of fear. Have a nice day!! Moron.

Yea when the masses start to defy your order/requests, tell me how you are going to stop them? Fear of a potential arrest will keep most away, but if your telling the masses that it is unenforceable, then you are going to eventually lose voluntary compliance. Sort of like the mandatory order to evacuate during a Hurricane.... We could but don't arrest people if they refuse to leave. Being stubborn about the legalities and announcing to the public it is unenforceable is wrong. A character flaw, and Bob's biggest weakness.
