SPPD to begin testing body cameras
https://www.baynews9.com/fl/tampa/ne...g-body-cameras
“When the officer pulls his or her weapon, the camera will be activated. So, the officer doesn’t have to worry about 'did I turn it on? Did I turn it off?'" he said. “It can record up to two minutes prior to the officer pulling his weapon.”
Holloway said those features will help save a lot of money on video storage, one reason it has taken him more than five years to support body cameras for his 450 uniformed officers."

TPD will issue body cameras this summer according to the brass. The biggest impediment was data storage cost but apparently that problem has been solved.

Once SPPD and TPD go with body cams it will be a short time until Bob decides to catch up to them, especially if it helps him politically. All that transparency, accountability, liability and public trust stuff, you know, which he frequently mentions in his speeches and e-mails. It will be in the best interest of the agency and the citizens it serves, blah, blah, blah. Leading the way for a safer Pinellas. Except it appears that SPPD, the laughing stock LEO agency in the county, is leading the way with body cameras.

Bob doesn't want them because it will make it much harder for him to lie in his press conferences. P;lus, it takes a LOT longer to do an IA when you have watch all of the video and match up the "story" with what you can see on the video.
