MIAMI

A Miami police officer was arrested early Sunday after he allegedly
purchased five Ecstasy pills -- while his colleagues watched.
Jose Luis Sotolongo, a five-year veteran of the force, was charged with
two felonies: one count each of purchase and possession of MDMA, the
scientific acronym for the popular club drug.
Sotolongo, 31, had been under investigation for between two and three
months after police received a tip he was buying and using Ecstasy, police
said.
The officer had just left a party at Brickell Key at about 12:45 a.m. when
he allegedly agreed to buy the five pills from an ''undercover operative''
working with police, Miami Police Lt. Bill Schwartz, a department
spokesman, said.
Internal Affairs investigators watched with video and audio recording
devices as Sotolongo handed the ''confidential informant'' $40 and took
the pills. When he was arrested, Sotolongo had the clear plastic baggie
with the five pills in his front right pocket, police said.
He told detectives he had two other Ecstasy pills in the same pocket,
which were found -- along with $717. But Schwartz said there is no
evidence Sotolongo was selling drugs.
''As far as they could tell at this point, Sotolongo was purchasing the
pills for personal, recreational use,'' he said.
Two other officers who were with Sotolongo were relieved of duty after
they refused to submit to a drug test, Schwartz said. They are John
Cunill, 29, a seven-year veteran, and Kevin Cahill, 42, a 15-year veteran.
''They were coming out of the same party and they appeared impaired,''
Schwartz told The Herald.
``They were asked by a commanding officer to submit to a urinalysis and
they refused. This means they can be relieved of duty.''
All three officers will be assigned to administrative duties pending the
outcome of an investigation, Schwartz added. ''It's embarrassing. We're
held to a higher standard, and it's disappointing to see one of our own
cross the line,'' he said.

A little advice to all of you DO NOT HIRE a cop to represent you in anything
Even if you pay a little extra get a real attorney
Do not use our garbage reps
If he is a cop and now does finance, say NO!!!!
Pay for a professional
