You folks should mind your own business as to what people make especially those in a bureau like Homicide where you can’t hide like others. Sooner or later you will be exposed, now if there is a recent issue with accountability then yes that’s a problem but as far as work there isn’t a busier bureau within the department. Yeah they make a lot of money but they also sacrifice way more than any other place and those that question probably couldn’t cut it or wouldn’t even think about going there. They go about their business and don’t look for attention or compliments, it’s usually the jealous officers on the outside who cause all the noise.

Between the on-call, partial weekend off and forced rotating schedule on top of the only bureau that is %100 reactive, it makes it the most difficult position on the department. Other bureaus (not taking shots) schedule OT operations so it won’t conflict with days off, weekends, holidays, etc. In Homicide there is no such thing. They, like everywhere else may not have the best detectives on every squad, but they still get put through the grind. No fancy rentals, no jeans, no shorts and tennis shoes, and you don’t and can’t plan your life around work as you can other places.

Ask anyone who works or has worked there, but then again like someone else said the mere fact your questioning it means are are probably lazy and never done anything worth while in your career.

Worry about yourself mind your own business and do your job which probably needs more improvement than the Homicide bureau.

I agree with the previous post, Homicide is one of the few bureaus which sees every uniform district from one end of the county to the other, works with every bureau, every entity within the department and interacts with the command staff regularly providing briefings and updates, they see the good and bad when it comes to report writing, effort, decision making, and incident response at every level. They treat officers with respect and professionalism but yeah do they have their share of millennials just like the rest of the department and profession, absolutely. That being said the job requirements are way more demanding than any other investigative unit in the profession, not just the department.

Those that sit back and criticize don’t really know what the job entails, it’s not just responding to murders in Northside and Opa-Locka, try going to an autopsy and educating yourself or attend a murder trial where you testify for 2 days after giving an 8 hour depo. Shame on them if they act like they are better as it wasn’t like like that before. Yes sometimes they are treated differently, but that’s because it is a different bureau, not better just different.

Stop criticizing each other and dragging the department and profession down, it’s embarrassing and detrimental to the entire profession.

Amen. Once you know a little about the Homicide Bureau you can comment. But that there is no BS. No place has claimed more marriages and burned out more detectives. A brutal grind indeed.
