You can do that all you want but unless there’s an investigator to wrap up the case after the initial arrest many of them will bond out and never go back in. Get rid of the two in gun crimes and make two investigators assigned to the protective unit. It won’t be JP since most of the hours would be after 1600

That’s ridiculous the unit could tie up loose ends too no need for more investigators. Just like the original street crimes. They accomplished a lot. Where’s the precious hip unit in all this. Working gigs?

HIP started off great. Horse of many colors so to speak. Sometimes in uniform, sometimes plain clothes in unmarked units. They went where the demand was. It has just gotten.....not good as it has developed. Never where they need to be. Part of the issue is that they will take anyone who is interested. Tbey were pretty picky when it was first developed. Now it's not all the dedicated folks it started with.

Nobody follows up on anything except the narcotics referrals. If only we had some unit that would take information about guns and gang members. Maybe if they interviewed some of the people HIP catches and tried to get information from them to figure out who the violent people are before they kill.

Why do we have any investigators then? They don’t take my reports and I can’t go to 12/13 while calls hold for me in 2/7.

I'm with you! We are chasing the radio constantly. Sometimes it is moderately convenient to do a follow up and other times it's a pain. Some cases should automatically go to someone to follow up on for sure! Not enough cops on the road.

Sounds like JP has spoken. “Hey, don’t expect us to do actual investigations. You guys should do that on your own in between 20 calls per night. I’m only here because I’m entitled to this position”

Assign investigators to shifts and have them do follow ups on the cases generated by that shift. This admin is too top heavy. Reduce the admin and get a few more bodies out on the road to get this mess under control.

Really? Who in admin could work a case? Which of them has that kind of capability? We have young deputies with initiative and drive that want to work and learn. The old heads around here are too busy seeking power Could you imagine Haines working a call and following up a case successfully? No way. RR? Ha ha ha ha now that’s funny!! Jackson? Couldn’t handle a jay walking! Hobbs? Maybe a food theft is about it.
