Please take close look at the racial breakdown of people standing with Sheriff Tony during the press release. That says it all!

Exclamation Doin away w/passive culture where people feel afraid 2 punish deputies 4 bad behavior

Broward sheriff overhauls discipline board to ensure deputies are held accountable

By Eileen Kelley, South Florida Sun Sentinel, 2:00 pm February 20, 2020

The Broward sheriff says he’s doing away with a passive culture where people feel afraid to punish deputies for bad behavior.

Sheriff Gregory Tony has taken a zero-tolerance approach by firing at least five deputies for wrongdoing in the past year. And Thursday, he said he’s replacing all but one person from an 11-member panel that makes decisions about deputies’ discipline.

The panel, the Professional Standards Committee, has been in place at the Sheriff’s Office for decades. It was created to give the public a voice in deciding whether to discipline deputies accused of bad behavior.

Of the 11 seats, four are reserved for people who have nothing to do with law enforcement.

Tony said he has spoken to some panel members and he believes that there has been a long-standing culture that leaves those not with the Sheriff’s Office feeling afraid to speak up in the presence of so many Sheriff’s Office employees.

“The civilian population feels almost like they are being bullied in these meetings,” Tony said. “It’s almost like they are not allowed to press or ask questions.”

The entire board, except for a sworn officer who represents the union, will now be replaced. He said he plans to inform the entire board this: “You are not here to be passive. You are not here to be bullied — that’s unacceptable.”

Tony said the new people he has tapped for the four non-employee panel positions are fully experienced in making tough and unpopular decisions.

“If you think about the pressure behind that,” he said. “If you are a civilian and you are sitting in a room with multiple BSO employees, right, it takes a certain level of character to raise your hand and say, ‘You know what? I disagree.’

“And part of redesigning is to empower every individual and [let them know] it is their civic duty to disagree when it is time to.”

    Tony understands disagreeing.

While the panel’s decisions are a non-binding recommendation, Tony has been taken to task by the deputies’ union for not abiding by the Professional Standards Committee’s recommendation when it comes to punishment.

Since Gov. Ron DeSantis appointed Tony to take over the Sheriff’s Office more than a year ago, Tony has fired at least five deputies.

Most recently in December, he fired Deputy Christopher Krickovich for slamming a teenager’s head against the asphalt. The violent encounter with DeLucca Rolle in Tamarac was recorded by multiple bystanders with cellphones and the footage went viral, drawing an outcry.

The internal affairs investigation was handed over to the panel for review. The panel voted to clear Krickovich of all wrongdoing. But Tony still fired the deputy, saying there’s no place in his agency for officers such as Krickovich.

Krickovich also was indicted and his criminal case is still playing out in court. Krickovich’s case isn’t the first time that Tony has come to a vastly different conclusion than the panel.

Last fall, the panel voted to suspend Deputy Jorge Sobrino for a few days. Tony instead fired the deputy. Like Krickovich, Sobrino was caught on camera pummeling someone. In this case, the man was handcuffed to a hospital bed.

I was sitting in on those review board meetings when this militant cop hating jack-off was being placed in cuffs for the first time. And then when he was being fired from Springs. Civilian board members were proud to serve and always felt that cops deserved the benefit of the doubt. They never felt bullied or intimidated! That's this azzholes words not theirs. So I guess all of them were ignorant and weak huh, you filthy cop hating mope? He needs to know that we don't lust after him like Andy Pollack. In fact, any BSO employee who supports this deformed retard is worse than he is. Hes flaunting these black panther tactics and nobody is saying a thing. Broward will soon see what this frauds about. He needs to remember that Jenne was very intelligent yet still did prison time. In comparison, temporary is a special kind of stupid as the best part of him ended up on a ghetto mattress somewhere. That's obvious. And at this rate, he could easily one-up Jenne in record time. Nothing more dangerous than a retard that thinks hes a swahili genius. Be careful around this stain and be safe folks.

The union has no say when it comes to who is on the board. But there is lots going on behind the scenes. Get your popcorn ready and prepare for the great show on earth.

Change a culture not only by changing the review board but tell the deputies thow you expect them to act. Use your new training department.
Led this department inside of BSO. Dont let the employees hear it from the news. Reverse your approach.
Tell the employees what you expect, train them through your training programs, and then goto the press. You could have still changed the panel too.

Led is to trust. To build.

Be prepared to be judged by the new crew who will seek restitution for prisoners if handcuffs are to tight, if they are not allowed a bathroom break on the way to jail, not offered a sparkling water subsequent arrest, or not treated with kindness in the jail...
