Even a wretched agency like SPPD offers the option of 8s or 10s. The least we should do is to match SPPD.

Retiree medical insurance premiums depend when you were hired, pre or post 1995. If you are post 1995, the longer you work the lower the premiums. The pre 1995 deal was too expensive for the agency so that's how the post 1995 variable rate insurance came about. It's definitely something worth fighting for because medical insurance is a big deal later on in retirement.

98% or sheriffs offices in FL are on 12’s. Stop being lazy ****s and crying about it. I have friends at several other agencies and none of them cry about being on 12’s. That's BS. There were 3 surveys and 8s won every time by over 80%, with independent count of the votes. Aside from a few youngsters who wanted to go to clubs on weekends, everyone voted to keep the 8 hour shifts. A few suggested 10 hour shifts but the administrations shot them down.

The only reason the administration forced 12s on us was to save money on the budget, per the county. Kids, family life, school, pets, etc ? Don't like it ? Oh well, deal with it, if you don't like it there's the door. That was the answer when a few people mentioned going back to 8s.
