Sadly, this is what happens when a police agency hastily creates a "specialized" unit in response to a horrific tragedy like the Parkland High School massacre. *The PRT concept is sound, and the units can be salvaged if redirected to the Districts to serve within clear "priority" guidelines. *What might they be? *First, all Baker Act calls, and all follow-up related to it, like procuring Red Flag firearms seizure warrants. *Second, all Domestic Violence Calls. *Domestic Violence? *Yes, invariably, 20% of all reported homicides are Domestic Violence related. *A swift, proactive response can break the circle of violence most victims are in, just by arresting the offenders and providing guidance to the victims. Third, responding to all suspicious vehicles (37s) and suspicious persons (38s) calls. *A prompt response to these calls can often be the difference between a burglary or home invasion robbery. *Fourth, respond to all Silent and Hold-Up Alarms, especially at Pawn Shops. *As with the 37s and 38s calls, a prompt response can serve to thwart a major crime. *Fifth, when not engaged in a preliminary investigation of any of the previously cited calls, PRT units will take Signal 13s and engage in Hot Spot patrol in areas CAU has identified as such, or the officers know them to be so. *PRT officers will remain at such locations for no more than 15 minutes, as longer is counterproductive. *When on Hot Spot patrol, officers may assume a stationary mode, observing citizens' behavioral dynamics and when they see behavior that based on experience and training, is indicative that a crime was, is being or about to be committed, engage. *PRT; indeed, all officers should revisit Terry v Ohio, USSCT, 1968 and Florida Statute, Section 901.151, The Florida Stop and Frisk Law.**

Omg pls don't send them to calls where human interaction is important. Bad enough they never have their tac gear when they need it. But form sentences too? Oh no.
