    IUPA union election update

    Folks,
We at IUPA thank you for your support and look forward to representing you in the future. We have filed for a Union election with the Public Employees Relations Commission that will give you the opportunity to vote for IUPA as your new Union. We will keep you informed every step of the way as this process progresses. The most asked question at this point is when will the election take place? You can expect to vote on your new Union some time in February or March.
At this time, IUPA is going through an unprecedented growth spurt across the nation and Florida in particular. In the past 3 years, we have brought on almost a dozen units in the state of Florida. All of our units are serviced with top-notch attorneys at the bargaining table and in critical matters. Our legal defense fund is one of the healthiest funds in the country and was audited with over 30 million dollars in assets recently. Unlike other unions, we have no cap in our legal fund.
We will be setting up meetings with your agency in the near future to discuss what IUPA can do for you both at the negotiations table and in the field. All will be welcome to attend and ask questions.
In the meantime, if any of you have questions of an immediate concern, please do not hesitate to call and ask away. I will be happy to answer any and all questions you might have. We have attorneys available to answer any type of legal question that may arise.
Until we meet in the future…please be safe out there.

You can blame the Pba all you want and switch to iupa or Fop, but the truth of the matter is that this city does not care about its employees and will screw them over every chance they get.

That may be true but at least we will have control over our own union, our own president and control our own money. It will be up to us to make us succeed.

PBA is a tired dinosaur that has not been responsive to its members for some time. It’s a waste of money to continue down this road. Their position and level of service is clear and they’re never going to change. So good riddance to the T-Rex, your extinct.

    Everyone,

Your union election petition with the Public Employees Relations Commission (PERC) is now moving on to the next step. The purpose of the first step was for all the parties involved to agree which job classifications should be included and excluded in your union. Since the inception of your union, the job classifications have evolved. Currently the job classifications included in your contract are:

INCLUDED: All sworn police officers of the rank of patrolman, patrolwoman, detective and sergeant.
EXCLUDED: All non-sworn police officers, lieutenant, captain, major and chief.

All parties have agreed to update the job classifications to the following:

INCLUDED: All full-time sworn police officers in the rank of officer and sergeant.
EXCLUDED: All non-sworn personnel, all part-time personnel, and all full-time sworn police officers in the ranks of chief, deputy chief, assistant chief, major, captain and lieutenant.

All parties have until March 3rd to file any exceptions. Once March 4th passes and no parties have filed exceptions, your petition will move on to the elections department. At that time, the elections department will determine the dates and times for your union election and if the election will take place on site or by mail. As always, we will keep you informed every step of the way as this process progresses.

No. More like the Warriors vs the Orphans.
