Hidden River Shooting means even less K9 units available... for a while

First and foremost, thank God all of our deputies are alright!!

Second, I've got to say it's pretty sad that on-duty deputies are only notified of a deputy involved shooting..... by social media, and not by our own agency. Very sad!

Third, as if it wasn't hard enough to get a K9 deputy out when they are needed (through no fault of the K9 handlers), we will have at least two less K9 units available, for a while. They will be out while the investigation takes place. Again, through no fault of the K9 handlers themselves, there's just not enough of them working at one time to protect our citizens and give the road deputies the tools they need.

With all the money this agency has, you'd think we'd use some of that money to full staff every district with at least 1 K9 unit working AT ALL TIMES. One for every district.... and also 1 floater, to be available to drive around and assist the K9 units on an active track. Having this "floating" K9 unit will prevent any district from having their K9 unit leave their district to assist other K9 units. All of this should be IN ADDITION TO the K9 units that are 10-77 training. The K9 units have to train often. And when they are training, they are an hour away from responding to an in progress call in West D3, our South D4, and so on.

Come on CC. You like to flaunt your new toys all the time. Spend some of the money we already have to fully staff... no, make that to OVERSTAFF... this specialty unit. Then you can blow up all forms of social media, in an election year none the less, showing how many minorities (I don't care if they're ALL minorities... we need more K9 units) and/or alternative lifestyle K9 handlers this agency will have. You can show how safe every citizen, of every district, will be able to feel... all because YOU made the decision to make sure at least 1 K9 unit is patrolling each district, and 1 K9 unit is floating, AT ALL TIMES!!!

That'll get you VOTES VOTES VOTES !!!!!!!!

To everyone one scene at Hidden River, Thank you!!!!!!! Please be safe!!!

    So what you're saying is...

    (5 districts) X (2 Shifts/A's+B's) X (2 times of day/day+night)

    = 20

    + 4 floaters (1 for A days, 1 for A nights, 1 for B days, and 1 for B nights)

    = 24 K9 teams

This seems obtainable in the next few years. How many K9 teams exist now? 13? 15? This actually make sense. But can you actually find enough deputies who actually want to run behind a stinky dog all night long, in the swamp, for the rest of their career?

When I first started, K9 units were X8 patrolling and usually arrived on scene before any patrol unit. It seemed there was 1 per district.

Fast forward a few years and they were always 45 min out from their office.

Now, they don't even answer the radio and dispatch has to hunt them down by switching channels over and over.

Its all a joke. A big show. Its all about smoke and mirrors for that social media.

Our sheriff went to the hospital to visit that bank robbery shooting victim. Sounded great at first, but as sure as SHIIT, there was somebody right behind him snapping photos of him shaking his hand. His camera team. That photo was the intent all along.

Its all a big joke. We are shorter than ever and this county is bigger than ever and growing. All while our senior management worry about that social status, money, and power. K9 units are not even on the back burner.

We don’t even have enough deputies to fill the zones on the road, so where are the k9 deputies going to come from? Every night, D2 gets slammed so hard, that day shift can’t get off on time, sometimes staying an hour or two past shift with 15 calls holding.

    Excellent point.

Where are they going to come from? I'll tell you where. From our already overstaffed fluff positions. WE ALREADY HAVE ENOUGH DEPUTIES to fully fill every patrol slot, the potential 24 canine slots, every A.I. slot, every Xray slot, and every other slot that answers calls for service. We just choose not to put deputies in these slots.

We refuse to fully staff, or "overstaff" as the o.p. suggested, positions that answer calls for service. But we already have enough deputies to do so. And, we are hiring patrol deputies 30+ at a time, every few months or so.

Citizens and deputies alike should demand more from our leaders. "Hold them to a higher standard."

Your ideas are excellent and appreciated. The updated strategic operational plan for 2020-2023 is almost finished. The only problem that stumped the creators was how to find the personnel to achieve overstaffing. You created the solution so thank you. The plan has already been sent to the publisher so your ingenious solution will have to be printed as a self-standing addendum. An emergency meeting will be held to determine if it will be printed single-ply or double-ply toilet paper.

Par for the course for the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office. Take a logical, reasonable, sustainable, problem solving idea and sshhhiiitt on it.

... and then do a photo op followed by social media posts to deceive our citizens.

The Sheriff’s Office doesn’t care about hindering crime or allocating resources needed to protect innocent and vulnerable citizens. If it doesn’t include a social media post it’s not a priority.

This is true. So get those cameras ready to publicize "Chad's decision" to provide the citizens of Hillsborough County with enough canine deputies to protect everyone. PROBLEM SOLVED!
