Why does it seem North Port PD looks out for their troops more than we do. Just heard they are now letting their guys have facial hair year round. That tren

Sorry rest of the message. That trend has been growing. Jacksonville SO has had them for years. Orange and Osceola now have them as well. I'm sure others as well. Not to mention the PD's that do also.

    Cool

When Knight first came here, he wanted to switch all the leather-gear to shiny black, like what SPD wears -- until he found out it would cost too much to switch everybody over. Knight is all about appearance and he will never allow the unshaven look, even if it is trimmed. Looks are more important than substance. Look at the ridiculous posters on the walls as proof.

Beards have become the norm. That is why more and more agencies are allowing nicely trimmed beards. It is looking more like the society we serve. We talk about community policing but we get stuck in old ways. We need to relate more. No different than more agencies allowing tattoos. We have to evolve. It is also a recruitment tool. It sends a message that the admin is looking out for the troops. Moral!!!

That is way to progressive for us. Stay in your lane bro. Lol. Just kidding. They can't think out of the box here. Kudos to North Port for looking out for their people.

The problem with LEO's donning beards is the same problem beards present for those in the military, in that one cannot don a gas mask properly with a beard.

Then again, LEO's and soldiers don't actually have to put on a gas mask all that often.

Jacksonville Sheriff's Office one of the largest in the state and have had beards for years, must not be much of an issue. Orange County SO and Orlando PD allow them now as well.

I've NEVER been issued a gas mask. Never even tried one on, after leaving the military.
