True but what is needed is a raise. FTO positions should be given a 10% incentive. We have been at 5% for decades. A lot is required from patrol trainers now a days compared to many years ago. Besides making sure recruits are safe, trainers have a multitude of responsibilities and need to learn new technology and perform their duties as officers, trainers, and supervisors while subjected to body worn cameras. In the past trainers were not faced with these obstacles and relied on 5% incentives. It’s time we voice our rights and opinions. There is no incentive what so ever being an FTO in these days. You have brass members making all the money while us boot on ground guys chew on a bone. FOP fight for this concern.

Earning between $14 and $20 only more a day being an FTO is no longer worth it or lucrative. Dispatchers are clueless and unaware that you are training someone who has never done police work. Your are told by supervisors to hurry up and dispatchers are expecting you to finish a call as fast as someone not training someone. You are wearing a camera as well as the recruit and the chief is mandating everyone not to mute the camera while on a call. All these rules and policies and no pay. Reports are to be turned in before going home or face disciplinary actions. How can you respond to a call, properly investigate it, courteously treat the public, record entire encounter, explain and teach the recruit, then commence the report, thoroughly review report, correct the mistakes, explain such, submit report, evaluate daily performance, teach, assist others, maintain proactivity, and etc. 5% is crap. The county pays 10% to their FTOs and volume of calls don’t amount anywhere near to ours. The FOP needs to look at this for sure!!
