How many were actually on the radar before they committed the crime? Several. Though some were not. But, here is the problem. In order to guarantee that none of the people who are potential mass murders ever commit mass murder, they have to be removed from society, forever. That is life long incarceration or death. Now, as our criminal justice system does not allow us to subject a person to life in prison or death for merely threatening to harm someone, it is going to be really, really, REALLY difficult to guarantee that a person will not commit this type of crime in the future. Hell, Florida has an 80% rule in place because recidivism is so high. What programs like the TMU do is go out and arrest some clown who makes a threat on Facebook. If they own any gun, then they get their bond jacked up to an astronomical level and then have a press conference and tell everyone how they stopped a mass shooter. But, a few months or a year later, that person gets a short sentence, usually probation. After all, this is not the Minority Report, we can't convict people for a crime that they have not committed. So, two years or five years or ten years later, that person can murder his mother and steal her firearm and go shoot up an elementary school. Or he can gain a firearm through robbery, burglary, a casual sale or even purchase one on the black market and do the same thing.

Perhaps an intervention will convince these people that they should actually commit such crimes. On the other hand, maybe it won't. What does work, almost all the time, is when armed security actively intervenes to stop the attack. When an armed defender uses deadly force against an armed mass shooter, that often terminates the attack RTFT. And, in favor of society Because this is the real world, this does not always workout, as hoped. An armed defender failed to stop Columbine or the Pulse Nightclub shootings. But, it does work nearly all the time.

Now, I'm gonna give you a little lesson in police work, Rook. Police is reactive. it is always reactive, because we can only enforce the law through lawful arrest. And, there are very, very few laws which allow us to arrest people for possibly committing a crime in the future. So, even if we are reasonably certain that a person is going to commit a crime, there is nothing we can really do about it, except wait for the person to actively attempt to commit that crime. Got it? Good. enjoy your career.

Really, why don’t you educate yourself and actually see how many threat assessments are being sent in from elementary schools.

    Flee bags

The captain looks like a homeless person with a cheap suit and a pink tie from Walmart. The black guy from what understand has a no show job due to his political affiliations. I think they should increase the detective unit allowances and send them to a barber shop on a monthly basis to get rid of the corn rows and flees.

How about you educate yourself. Threat Assessments are not generated by the SGT or even that unit. Threat Assessments are generated by the school board and DLE simply sits in on them. Go cry to the school board and stop talking.

Simple solution.....take everyone’s guns! Go around to around 200,000 million homes going door to door and confiscate everyone’s guns. If someone doesn’t comply he goes to jail.

Beto O’Rourke has this idea and it’s a really well thought out plan.

Take away guns no more mass killings.

    Simple. Thanks democrats

Fat shortys nephew Rod “only” shows up on the day his overtime is scheduled to submit his overtime slip. Need I tell you he’s a Bible thumping thief, just another hypocrite. Kudos to the Captain, Lt and Sgt for allowing this to happen. Good Job Major for setting an example of your expectations

Just like everything you learn in the academy textbooks is true when you hit the streets... yeah.. ok.. there's a difference between what's written on paper and real life scenarios when it comes to a topic like this. It is typically too unpredictable and fluid once it starts.

Geez... it astonishes me when comments like this are made. Do you really believe all Republicans love guns and all Democrats are against them..?? 😳 even for Democrats that idea was extreme. That is part of the reason why he lost support and dropped out of the race almost 3 weeks ago...... smh

Well, all the Democrat candidates were on board with coerced gun buy back programs. Not one spoke out against it. So.......

The Democrats don’t hide their intentions they come right out and say it now. No guns, confiscate everyone’s money, socialism.

I haven’t heard a Republican speak highly of these ideas.

Hit the nail on the head! TMU is policitcl, inept, impotent, or whatever. Best part is SC. I'd f&&& her, and JC needs to go.

These units run around arresting people who make "threats", often non-credible threats, and then claim that they prevented a mass, shooting. However, even if the arrest prevented an immediate mass shooting, by that particular individual, once he is back in society, he is again a threat. And, of course, there is always the lone wolf shooter, who operates under the radar and makes no threats, or who suddenly snaps and operates in a fit of anger.

Then we have the problem of response. Once the attacker has breached the perimeter of the facility, there is almost a 100% chance that there will be casualties. And, as these incidents take only a few minutes to transpire, less than 10, usually, a lot of people can be injured and killed during that time. So, once a school is on lock down, due to a shooting incident, it is already too late to prevent it. But, the LEA can watch the whole thing unfold in real time.

There is only one way to guarantee that a mass shooter attack will not succeed, is if the site is hardened to prevent entry. And, that is simply not happening. These programs are all designed to do two things, make the public FEEL more secure and give cover to elected politicians.
