    Lost Health Insurance

DIRECTOR STACI PICKAVANCE, MAJOR JON GOETLUCK, COL KURT HOFFMAN AND SHERIFF KNIGHT are solely responsible for the loss of being able to go to Sarasota Memorial Hospital. They knew our CIGNA health insurance was not going to come to an agreement with SMH six weeks ago and they did nothing about it

Not sure what that means. A general practitioner usually isn't stationed at SMH, but instead, at their own office for private practice. Exactly what does the following mean:

"the loss of being able to go to SMH"

Exactly what medical benefit(s) are lost and why? Instead of ending emails and notes with "Stay safe!," maybe we should end them with "Stay healthy!"

Nobody cares about health insurance, until you start getting older. Stay healthy! Or else!!!!

Wow how ignorant can you be? Let's say you're not old but rather a young buck, full of piss and vinegar and you have a few kids. One of you kids is playing little league on 12th street where he gets stung by a bee. You didn't know, until this incident that your child is allergic to bee stings, and he is now having difficulty breathing. His throat is closing up. Where are you you going to tell EMS to take your child? The pediatrician or an E.R.? The nearest one is SMH but if you go there you're on the hook for the bill.

Mindsets like yours are like saying who needs car insurance, drive safe.....until that drunk moron runs the red light and plows into your car. You sound like command staff material.

The ambulance ride is crazy expensive and is NOT covered by SSO insurance, neither for you nor your child. An ambulance ride cost around $450 to $500 for a one-way trip. People don't understand how expensive it is until they get a bill for $500.

Regarding being treated at SMH, that might have something to do with being "in network" or "out of network." I'm not sure how that stuff works, except that if you (or your child) are treated at an "out of network" facility, then the cost is significantly higher. For example, an in-network treatment for a bee sting might be $20 (depending on what your deductable is), but an out-of-network treatment for a bee sting might be anywhere from $100 to $300+ (when additional out-of-network fees are added).

SPD used to get free medical with their retirement package, but the city commissioners put a stop to that about 15 years ago because the taxpayers can't afford to provide it for retired public servants. SSO has never offered free medical post-retirement.

You provided the one-way cost , but how much do they charge to go round trip ?? <shaking head>
