    Noise violations

Just curious, I'm a citizen of Tampa and have had a hard time getting TPD to enforce noise violations.
Basically, it's to the point that my complaints don't even register. It's literally the first time I've ever asked
for the police to assist me with a matter and they don't give a sh*t.

Is there a reason noise complaints aren't taken seriously in Tampa? I have heard that cracking down
on noise violations from vehicles has led to significant drops in crime in other cities (Elkhart, Indiana for example).
Apparently, there is a link between criminals and those thumping stereos. Thoughts?

Well, that definitely explains it. Thanks for the info. I'm a little confused as to why there's any sort of city ordinance
concerning this still on the books (50 ft plainly audible). I for one don't understand how it's not disturbing the peace but I'm not a lawyer.

Noise complaints can and have been enforced as disturbing the peace/breach of peace violation if not from a motor vehicle where a separate statute governs that. One must be willing to be a complainant and show up in court and the officer must be a witness to the violation. This has been done in the past on many occasions. Younger officers may not be aware of this.

Brush up on your city ordinances and start doing your job. The city’s 50’ ordinance is still in effect. I’m sure you are going to spew some nonsense about the state law superseding all else, so I encourage you to contact city attorney to verify. Remember... it’s part of your job to stay current on laws to include those of the city that pay you. Don’t BS citizens into thinking nothing can be done.

Bicycle violations are still on the books too. But like noise, its more progressive to not enforce them. Because... feelings.
