Now you advocate for allowing a handful of people, who lose loved ones to criminal action, to be given unilateral authority over everyone else in the city. Israel had NO direct responsibility for the shooting, that was the school board. Yet, I do not see you demanding that school security be increased beyond what was in place at MSDHS on the day of the shooting. Do you really care about the students in our schools, or is this just a political game to you?
You missed the point. It's not about authority, it's about decency. If a neighbor were to run over a child with their car, the child had run out in front, it was not the fault of the driver, but the family of the dead child believed so- and it brought pain to them to see this neighbor, the neighbor, if of good character, would move elsewhere to bring peace to the family, right or wrong. Reinstatement? Yes. Back pay? Yes. But, those grieving should not have to advocate for the termination of the contract. That should come from SI and he'd be a fool not to consider it as a smart strategic move. It would set him apart from Runcie, the school board etc. He needs to ask himself the question: Do you want to be RIGHT, or do you want to win?

He'll never do that it's too much for his big ego. He'll risk losing before making even the smallest concession. He'll get reinstated and gloat and celebrate after making some insincere speech about how he prays for parkland every day. . Thats what narcissists do. Its all about winning. They have no regard for the rights and feelings of anyone but themselves. But karma always gets them, some how, some way.

As one parent said (something to the effect of) "It wasn't just the SRO that failed to act, it was also the 9 officers that responded to include road patrol, Sergeants, lieutenants, and captains that failed to act showing a systematic failure and lack of training".

ARE YOU INSANE? Why should the neighbor, who was innocent of any wrongdoing in the accident which claied the life of the child, destroy their life by uprooting themselves and moving? If the parents of the deceased child can not stand the memories associated with the neighborhood, then they are FREE to move elsewhere.

In the case of the contract, why should the rest of the community forego what may well be a beneficial arrangement for them, because a handful of parents can not come to grips with the unfortunate death of their child. Should all vehicular traffic be banned within the community because a single should dies in a vehicle accident? Ridiculous. If the residents of Parkland want to sever their ties with the BSO, they are free to do that. However, at the moment, it does not appear that this is the case.

I do not know what alternate space-time continuum you reside in, but say goodbye to the unicorns and return to reality.

Another totally false narrative. And, it shows a total misunderstanding of LE procedures. Every single casualty occurred BEFORE the third BSO deputy arrived on scene. This incident was over approximately 5 minutes after it began. The only member of the BSO, who had any idea what might be transpiring at MSDHS, was Dep Peterson. The responding deputies, sergeants, lieutenants and captains were dependent upon him to provide adequate direction to guide their response. Peterson failed to do that. It was a personal failing, not a systemic failing. And, Sheriff Israel acknowledged that and sought to impose appropriate disciplinary action.

But, this is not enough for the parents of the slain. They want a very high ranking person to blame for the incident. Unfortunately, they and the media chose the Sheriff, rather than the entity which was actually directly responsible for the shooting be able to occur, the BCSB.

You are one cold hearted "F"

Expect to be overwhelmed by the ceremonious severing of ties with BSO. It will be a media event like no other. And make no mistake about it, the very deep appreciation that we have for our district 17 DEPUTIES who have helped us get through the past year and a half will be at the forefront of our presentation. They will be sorely missed.

Okay. Please explain in great detail Sgt. Miller's performance on scene, his silence and physical position throughout this event. It doesn't take a genius to figure out that Peterson was coming unglued and needed IMMEDIATE relief. Also, remind us about the heroics of Jan Jordans conflicting directives. Neither of them faced disciplinary action. They were NOT required to DEFER to Peterson as you seem to be suggesting.

Oh, give the "I'm a victim and the world revolves around MY feelings and screw everyone else" BS a rest. S**t happens in life. Deal with it.

Now, if the PEOPLE, not the a few parents, of Parkland wish to sever their ties with the BSO, that is entirely up to them. That is how democracy, and community, works. And, very frankly, I doubt that anyone in the BSO will care, one way or the other.

Yes, being a sergeant, Miller should have assumed command of the scene upon his arrival. He did not. This was a major failing and was also a violation of P&P. He was disciplined for that failing. Jordan's "conflicting" directives were largely the result of circumstances out of her control, and a failure of reporters to understand LE tactics and procedures.

According to the time line, Miller arrived as, or after the last casualty occurred [Cruz left the building approximately 45 seconds after Miller arrived]. Even if he had assumed immediate command, the incident was essentially over, upon his arrival. So, disregarding the fact that he had almost no information concerning the incident, assuming command would not have changed the outcome to any significant degree.

Jordan was even further removed from the ation. By the time she was even aware of the incident, it was over and Cruz was leaving the scene. Much complaint was raised about her ordering a perimeter be set up, after the firing stopped. Her order was appropriate, as the active shooter situation had changed to a potential hostage situation and failure to have a perimeter in place did allow Cruz to escape. Also, considerable confusion existed, after the shooting, because the BSO did not know that the video surveillance system, at the school, was on a tape delay. She thought that the shooter was still wandering the hallways, even though he had left the campus. And, until the building is secure, it is not a good idea to allow non-LEOs into the area. It just gives the shooter more unarmed targets. Jordan resigned and was assured of facing disciplinary action, at least the loss of her assignment.

This is a pretty good timeline, from the SunSentinel. Give it a read, paying particular attention to the time from the first shot to the last. https://projects.sun-sentinel.com/20...t=oft12aH-1la1

Once Cruz gained access to the school grounds, in general, and Building 12, in particular, people were going to be injured and killed. And, that was the total responsibility of the BCSB and its employees at the school, not the BSO.

You have simply drunk the media Koolaid that the BSO was responsible for this incident. The truth IS out there.
