DeSantis had nothing to lose and everything to gain. He has set up a perfect scenario to attract a new candidate for 2020. Look at social media. DEMOCRATS are furious about the possibility of a reinstatement. The farthest left residents object to Israel returning. ALL of the present candidates are considered undesireable. DeSantis, who knew going in that none of it would stick. The door is wide open for the right candidate to emerge. The continued excoriation of the school board, who point the blame at law enforcement at every turn, will keep Osgood, Runcie, Israel and the rest of the Broward corrupt in the same camp in the minds of voters. 2020 will be all about the 'change" candidate.

Why WOULD DeSantis accept the recommendation of the Special Master and withdraw Israel's suspension, if he can even do that at this point? He has to allow the Senate to render a verdict. If the Senate backs DeSantis, then its members inherit the problem, not the Governor. If they side with the SM and overturn the suspension, then DeSantis is no worse off than if he withdrew the suspension now.
