Good point. It was tricky because governor really cant remove a superintendent; but he CAN remove school board members. Expect that soon, he may do just that. Osgood showed her cards 2 weeks ago when she stated something to the effect that she would not consider any input from BSO until the Tamarac deps are FIRED. Essentially, she was refusing to do her job until her demands were met. That's clearly out of line, it was filmed and most likely grounds to remove her. Guessing that DeSantis would like to give the board an opportunity to force Runcie out before shaking things up; but yes, absolutely, Parkland sees the parallel here (watch the meeting, it was pointed out by parents and Sheriffs)and they're on it. These folks went into this nightmare with zero understanding of how the gears turn; it's understandable that it took quite a while for them to see the big and true picture- compounded by grief.

Absolutely. And frankly, its sad that parkland should have to get so deep into how things work because they shouldn't have to. That's what the school board group is well compensated to do. But it would be very reassuring if the governor continued what he started by placing blame where the problem initiated. Heck, we've already pointed out the main players here. Its no secret. Most of us wouldnt live in chicago because of the utter mess and danger associated with that city. On the same token, we don't appreciate that same culture being imported from chicago and dropped in our laps (the Runce).

DeSantis can not take any action against the BCSB. If he did, at this late date, the Dems would scream that it was blatant partisan political action designed to appeal to people who voted for DeSantis. And, it would certainly would look that way. The MSD Commission will be used to put pressure on the School Board, but the requirements for upgrading school security is so low, that even they can not do anything. There big thing this week was a single CHARTER SCHOOL which only had a part time contract for a school resource officer and that only 8 people showed up for that bogus "guardian school" run by the Sheriff's Office. Now, I seem to remember that there was a SRO at MSDHS, on the day of the shooting. How well did that work out? Even if Peterson had run willy-nilly through the doors of bldg 12, immediate saw Crus and shot him dead, we would still have 11 dead and 13 wounded. The state statutes concerning school security ignore hardening the sites themselves. Nobody cares about the students. It is all feel good BS to make the citizens feel safe; until the next time a person walks onto Broward campus and opens fire

This interrogation of Runcie was very eye opening. It is evident that his spin, lies, manipulation and often his silence over the past 16 months,intentionally suggested to all of us that it was law enforcement who were the problem. A lot of people are more educated today, and regretful, mostly for accepting these false conclusions which were twisted.

Runcie's fund driven practices seem to be what changed the boundaries between schools and police involvement and reaction. What remains unknown is whether Scott Israel really knew exactly what he had signed up for. Did he know and have any first hand account of the dangers within these schools? We know how much was kept from the community; but how much school crime (felony's) never made it to the respective BSO districts? It is untrue that parents are all in for Tony. He is the interim Sheriff and this city is in fact finding mode. We ( not just Parkland, the surrounding voters, as well) just want answers to these questions and not from two administrations with their own interests to protect. Evidently, the pawns in this game appear to be the SRO's and deputys who would take these reports and have nowhere to go with them. Would a sergeant even be involved if a parent were to go to the district if a school would ignore a report?

Please trust that support of a candidate has the interests of all considered. No one wins when police morale is low. Lets see what the grand jury comes up with on Runcie and the school board. Obviously, police-community relations has been negatively impacted by this ordeal. It's very difficult to understand a culture that you're on the outside of. It's essential to communicate in order to make 2020 a year of resolve and relief for all. Be safe everyone.

This is do full of misinformation that it is hard to know where to begin

First of all, the Promise program was not responsible for the MSDHS shooting. While it is a horrible practice, it is merely the codification of practices within the school and judicial system going back decades. There was nothing for which Cruz could have been arrested which would have made it impossible for him to obtain the type of firearm he had. So, let's get that off the table.

Second, Runcie works for the BCSB, they do not work for him. He is not an elected official and, therefor, he can be terminated by the School Board whenever they choose. The problem is, the School Board chose not to get rid of Runcie. The elected members of the Board were happy with Runcie's performance. It is the BCSB who is at fault, not Runcie. This spin that it was all Runcie's fault is just that spin. It is designed to protect the members of the BCSB who willfully allowed this all to happen. People are still trying to find a scapegoat in order to protect the Democrat Political Establishment.

Third, people have to understand how this shooting was allowed to happen. The BCSB, which has the responsibility for school security, decided that an incident of this type was such a low order of possibility that it could safely be ignored. And, statistically, they were correct. So, no effective entry control was implemented at the schools [though it was at the School Board headquarters]. Armed security consisted of a lone SRO from a local LEA. And, what little security the school system had in pace collapsed at MSDHS and a lot of people died.

Fourth, after the fact, the parties directly responsible for allowing the debacle to occur, the BCSB, refused to take any responsibility for the incident. They could have said that they did not spend the immense sum of money that it would cost to harden all the schools in Broward County to prevent this type of incident from occurring. They could have pointed out is was such a low probability event that most school districts in the state don't do anything different. But, they did not. They couldn't. The media and MSDHS parents wouldn't let them. Someone had to pay, and the School Coard was not going to throw themselves on their swords to assuage public opinion on the need for retribution.

Fifth, someone in authority had be deemed responsible and made to pay. Early on, the media decided that it was to be the Sheriff. The BCSB was largely ignored by the media. There was no loud outcry from the parents for their removal. It was all directed at the Sheriff. Now if the voters of the county had wished Israel removed from office because they thought him incompetent, they could have recalled him. No recall petition was ever filed, let alone a recall election held. DeSantis even promised to remove Israel, if he was elected Governor. And, he kept that promise using some really lame charges. So, people got their scapegoat. Except, the scapegoat didn't silently slink away. Oops.

Sixth, in the 18 months since the MSDHS shooting occurred, no significant upgrades have been to the security of Broward County schools. So far, some schools are locking their gates during school hours, something that MSDHS was doing on the day of the shooting. Every school now has a full time SRO or one of those weird "guardians" that the Legislature chose to allow. Of course, MSDHS had a full time SRO, who was on campus at the time of the shooting. So, even with an influx of mega-bucks, the Broward County schools are really no more secure than they were when Cruz walked into the MSDHS campus and shot and killed a large number of people.

Seventh, what is this grand jury nonsense? No one afforded Sheriff Israel the luxury of a grand jury. All of this foot dragging and finger pointing at Runcie is designed to do nothing more than protect the members of the BCSB. Wake-up people. Your children are no safer today than the were 18 months ago. And, they won't be any safer next year or the year after. It does not matter who is Sheriff, or who comprises the BCSB, no one is gong to do anything meaningfull to protect Broward County schools. They just do not want to spend the money.
