Inactive reserve, is when one leaves the serves, after their enlistment and are place on a list for call up if need be. This is how it was just after the Vietnam War ended and the draft stopped. They were on this list for, if I remember correctly 3 years. No pay and no training! You had to leave the serve with a honorable discharge. Before you can claim your a inactive reserve, you had to do a normal enlistment anywhere from 2+ years. There really isn't a category, in the military of inactive reserve. It's just a counting sheet they have for call ups. To claim your a inactive reserve is plain old BS! This fat old man, been out of the serve to long. If he was even in???
