Dirty and corrupt politics at their finest. Judge Bulone bailed out Sheriff Gualtieri's political career and saved him public embarrassment by sparing him from testifying at the Drejaka trial. Gualtieri's wife is a judge, incidentally. Talk about major conflict of interests here.

Defense attorney John Trevena would have cross-examined Sheriff Gualtieri so he could explain his reasoning for not arresting Drejka until he was ordered to do so by SA McCabe. Also why he and McCabe essentially disagreed on which law applied in this case.

This is a clear cut case which demands a change of venue and a judge who is impartial, with not even a hint of conflict of interest.

You are probably right because Bulone was specifically picked because he would run the case exactly how Bob and Bernie told him to. Bulone is a puppet. Gualtieri is an attorney, and thus qualified to testify about the law as an expert. The only problem is Guatieri's decision not to arrest was so ridiculously wrong, they had to keep him from going under oath to make a fool of himself. Bobby screwed the pooch on this one.

There are two main goals here, that's why Bulone issued this ruling:

1. Keep Sheriff Gualtieri off the stand to protect his political career and public image.

2. Take away a key factor from the defense to help ensure a conviction, and prevent riots if Drejaka walks.

I personally won't be surprised at the outcome. The fix is in. It has been since the trigger was pulled and Bob showed up. Bulone is a dirty little puppet and Travena knows it which is why he hasn't demanded a change of venue, because this time the fix is in to benefit his client.

At this point it makes no difference if Bob was right or wrong, the judge bailed him out and he will not be required to testify. Mission accomplished.
