After watching the video, it was apparent that the suspect was going to attempt to struggle to break free and attempt to flee being arrested. The Deputy overwhelmed him quickly. It appeared the suspect was still bracing, again a form of resistance, and your officer struck him three times to get his arm out from underneath him so that he could be cuffed. Obviously neither officer or dep knew if the suspect had any weapons on him at this point. Just curious as to how a suspect that has fled in a car, on foot, and then attempted to resist in order to flee being arrested, posed no immediate threat to these officers? Could the suspect have been armed? Command Staff made reference to it should have been handled another way. Exactly what was that preferred way, I noticed you did not elaborate. Does your training also assume that if a weapon is not seen, then you must treat the suspect as being unarmed? Or does training teach you that you should assume that any suspect could be armed? How many hours of training did this officer receive on this preferred unnamed technique? The public may buy your explanation, but anybody doing this job knows that what you and your command staff did was split such fine hairs in order to sustain this complaint. See its not the activist groups that are the problem, its police administrators that see cases like this as how can we minimize this and satisfy the mob. Supporting your officer was not the focus, as you could have just as easily justified his actions.........and we all know it!

The Sheriff has had his moments with discipline to. Every time I hear that wasnt how we trained you, I think okay lets look at this training. Unarmed self defense tactics. How many hours a year is spent on this? I gonna be liberal and say eight hours. During this training, you are shown these techniques and usually you walk through these things with a compliant,non resisting classmate. You demonstrate to the trainers at least one time that you can perform the technique, in a static, slow motion setting. Congratulations, you are now Chuck Norris! Of course if you were to ask any self respecting self defense expert they would tell you that proficiency requires many hours of repetitive training. Another area where TV and movies have given the false impression that you are Ninjas. Take this stuff out into the field. Now you run across a suspect that is superior in size and strength to you and is fighting you. Wonder now if these techniques are useful? If they are not, you are going to scrap it out the best way you know how, and hope backups get there to help you. Thats reality!. .

Holloway is a coward. Grady would have backed his Deputy and said to the media don't resist and you don't get beat down. Holloway uses this as a way to speak to the media and throw his entire department under the bus. Nothing the Officer did was against general orders. Everything he did was reasonable.

The PBA needs to stand behind this officer and grieve this. The officer in this case did NOTHING wrong. You had a subject using active physical resistance, he got three quick blows to gain compliance and it worked. If the PBA doesn't stand behind him they need to be outed as the collective bargaining unit. Seriously. Come on George... Do something.

This should have never made it to a full blown investigation. This department has a serious lack of leadership when it comes to disciplining its officers and it shows in Tony's track record of losing in arbitration.

The criminals see that the brass will not let you do your job, they also see that the Sheriff backs his deputies for the most part. This contributes to their brazen criminal behavior because they know that you guys are not free to arrest them or do any meaningful crime fighting.
