    That was a weird election cycle. It was 2004 and coming off the Clement scandal....Davenport won by less than 400 votes and you had Davenport, Hoffman 1 and 2. It was just after Hurricane Charley. Kurt was an SAO then and worked his way into the Sarasota inner circles. His boss at the time, Earl Varn was a mentor and friend of Kurt's dad. He convinced Sarasota Sheriff Balkwill to hire him and after Knight won, he became a sworn #2 essentially. Kurt moved from Rotonda to off East River Road a few years back once he realized with Knight's backing he could possibly win.

    Kurt has been friend with Billy Prummell for years so he wouldn't run against him. Hell, Prummell's youngest Andrew works for Sarasota County as a Deputy.
