Bob Waechter, the former Sarasota GOP chairman who was arrested for dirty politics, has anonymously created and submitted a brand new Sarasota County district-voting map, which commissioners voted to use.

When confronted by the Herald-Tribune with evidence that Waechter was the anonymous mapmaker, he denied it.

Waechter’s political involvement leads to more suspicions that the redistricting process is hijacked, to protect the Sarasota GOP’s influence on voters, ensuring that chosen individuals and business interests will get elected or reelected.

Waechter later wrote in an email: “Sorry for my denial, but you caught me off guard. I did craft the [anonymous] map.”
