agency related questions
So I’m interested in applying for ABT. Some questions I have are:
What is the caseload like?
Office hours?
Overtime or none?
Unmarked cars? Free take home or charge?
Off duties? If so, what’s the availability and hourly rate?
Uniforms? If none, is there any grooming policy in place (grow hair and beard for undercover investigations)
What does the agency do in a time of crisis? (Hurricane)
Thank you for anyone that can answer these questions.

Caseload is a variable that depends on office. Some offices are busier than others. Low side would be 6 and high side would be 35. The time of year comes into play as well. Your cases will be beverage law related. Offices are open 8-5 Monday through Friday but you would be working those hours in most offices. You work when needed is the easiest way to say it. You may work a couple days a week 8-5 then switch to 5-1 to get your cases cleared. There is really no overtime unless there is a state declared emergency like a hurricane or a special detail like spring break.
All cars are unmarked and assigned individually. There is no charge for the car. Off-duty depends on the area. There is no set rate. We have a class c working uniform that consists of polo and 5.11 pants. The grooming policy is under review but I wouldn't plan on going full Serpico. ABT contributes people toward statewide emergency deployments. Our role is security during those deployments. You may be riding with a uniformed officer on looter patrol or you may be guarding a Red Cross kitchen. Those assignments are passed on by FDLE. Some are great. Others blow like a hurricane.

What exactly does a investigative specialist do? (Inspector)

It is a non sworn position. They conduct compliance visits at licensed premises the verify compliance with Beverage Law. If they find a violation they either issue an Official Notice to come into compliance or notify the licensee that an administrative action is being filed against the beverage license. Strictly administrative in form and function. Before ISIIS came along, that task was done by agents.

I am just guessing you have been told we are downsizing. I disagree. We will be right sizing instead. We are incredibly top heavy and that is where we can get right. By eliminating captains and a few lieutenants over a million in salaries and benefits could be saved.

Equipment
Can anyone answer what make and model firearms are issued? What is the day to day dress code; hats, beards for everyone, blue jeans or shorts, when do you wear the issued uniform? What are you required to have on your person at all times? Do you ride solo or with a partner? Any help is much appreciated. Any sarcastic asses are also welcomed. I always like a good laugh!

Glock 22, 23 or 27 is issued. You can carry your personal 22, 23 or 27 too. Day to day is business casual. That means slacks with button up or polo. The Class C is worn when you are doing street police work like special events, spring break or anything else where you need immediate recognition as a police officer. You are required to carry the equipment necessary for you do do your job. Most carry pistol, cuffs, spray and extra mag. 99% solo, but often meet up to do investigative work. Beards are a moving target. There are many that have them but aren't necessary for undercover work.

Don’t come here. We are going through a reorganization and over the next few years sworn positions will drastically be cut / civilianized.
