Chief, deputy chief, 2 assistant chiefs, 3 majors, 4 commanders, 2 captains, and a bunch of lieutenants. Do all these people realize they will be listed on the crime scene log and subject to depo? Stay away and ask for updates

Should've seen how idiotic some people looked on scene with no idea what to do. IA had dozens of people there and we're told by FDLE to stand down and take a back seat. Ricky "I'm the best investigator ever" Lopez was in his SWAT uniform telling the state attorney and FDLE how he wanted the investigation to be handled. He's lucky FDLE didn't tell him to go back to micromanaging the miserable SWAT guys. The DV unit were scared someone was going to ask them to do something. Whatever happened to having a shooting team made up of the most experienced homicide and IA detectives?

"Whatever happened to having a shooting team made up of the most experienced homicide and IA detectives?"

That my esteemed colleague is a matter of leadership or as is your case now, lack thereof. Though the current police involved use of deadly force case calls for FDLE to be lead, it is the agency's best interest to have an investigative team parallel FDLE's investigation. You are correct in citing Homicide and IA and to them we would add training; for obvious reasons. Once FDLE concludes its investigation and submit its findings to the SAO, the agency's shooting team would be a position to apprise the police chief where the investigation led and once the SAO renders its findings, to more expeditiously launch and complete the investigation's administrative component. Which, as we all know, pursuant to FSS 112.532, is limited to a 180 days window; unless "tolled for a period specified in a written waiver of the limitation by the law enforcement officer . . ."

Nobody understands your super high level post about state law and shooting teams. It's simple: these new CID LTs want to reinvent the wheel. Just let FDLE call the shots, assign someone to facilitate getting reports for them and arranging interview rooms, and let them investigate as per MOU. I heard that Lopez told IA to get off the scene because they weren't needed nor required. He also pissed off the State and FDLE by making ridiculous demands. Everyone was there except for...Gause. Total no show.
