Knight asks: "Why bother keeping inmates in jail?"

Barry thanked Democrats for eliminating bail for non-violent crimes. He told a Daily News reporter: “I’m famous! I take $200, $300 a day of your money, cracker! You can’t stop me! Bail reform, it’s lit! It’s the Democrats! The Democrats know me and the Republicans fear me. You can’t touch me! I can’t be stopped!”

Your modus operandi is to blame others.

Tom, please do not blame judges for jail overcrowding because that is not realistic. Conversely, looking in the mirror is difficult because reality stares back.

All persons arrested by SSO will be given surveys, shortly after arrest by booking personnel. Sheriff Knight is concerned that they were treated fairly. A captain will assist with all inmate toenail cuttings, while Colonel Hoffman entertains them with flute music.

Knight and Hoffman want to eliminate the jail altogether. This would save them money in several areas. This is Hoffman’s big plan. Getting rid of the jail. He has kept it secret but Tom is clearing the pathway for him to make the announcement soon.

You are full of it. LOL

It is impossible for a sheriff to jettison the responsibilities of jail operations unless the Sarasota County commissioners agree to either:

    • COUNTY CORRECTIONS INDEPENDENT OF THE SHERIFF: Fund and hire and manage their own newly created "county correctional institute." Commissioners will have to hire a correctional director ($$$) and certified corrections staff ($$$). That is highly unlikely because it's not going to be less expensive + the commissioners would still have to pay into the Florida Retirement System for all employees to receive their lifetime pensions. Where is the financial savings? (none) It would just be a giant headache for the commissioners. It's easier to let the elected sheriff handle that headache -- and just continue letting the commissioners fund the sheriff. Either way, a new jail is going to have to eventually be built, regardless of Knight declaring otherwise. That's a fact because the county's population is exploding.
      .
    • CORPORATE CORRECTIONS INDEPENDENT OF THE SHERIFF: Outsource corrections to a private company, such as Corrections Corporation of America (rebranded as Core Civic) or Wackenhut or whoever. The county commissioners already have a couple of contracts with Wackenhut for court security. The nice thing about hiring a private corporation to run a jail is that the taxpayers are no longer on the hook for funding lifetime pensions for correctional officers. A corporation can simply offer them a 401k and nothing else. When they retire, there is no more financial obligation to pay them. The Florida Retirement System is going to get crushed because people are living for 30 to 40 years after they retire -- and taxpayers must continue to pay them until they die. The civilian world does not offer anything even remotely comparable. Privatizing corrections solves that financial liability.

It is highly unlikely that Hoffman would make that kind of a public announcement during an election year, due to backblast.

Unprecedented population boom = new jail needed

One thing is for certain -- the inability or unwillingness of Knight to build a new jail, to accommodate the exploding population-growth of Sarasota County -- will force the next new sheriff to work with county commissioners to build a state-of-the-art new jail within the next 10 years. It may seem like common sense to you that Sarasota County's population is exploding, so a new jail needs to be built. However, you will have to wait for the completion of the U.S. government's census bureau tabulations. That should be in the next 12 months from now?

This year, Siesta Key had the #1 rated beach in the United States (again). The entire nation is coming here. The population is booming like never before. A true strategic planner would recognize these facts. The next new sheriff will have to implement common sense to strategically plan for services that are needed NOW, as well as services that will be needed in the next 10 years (like a new jail).

Common sense is coming to the Sarasota Sheriff's Office in the next new administration.

When Knight first became sheriff, he proposed a multimillion dollar new "campus" at Bahia Vista & Cattleman, but it did not include a new jail, but just new offices. Knight took a lot of political heat for proposing such a wasteful multimillion dollar "campus." The real need remains for a new jail and not for a "campus" of a few new offices.

While the blue collar worker in Sarasota is doing everything they can to make ends meet in an already high priced area to live in, now they will be stuck flipping the bill for Tom Knight and Kurt Hoffman “Junkie Safe Space”.

Quite honestly I thought these guys were Republicans but it turns out they are much like Bernie and AOC. These people are just miss understood and need a safe place to relax and ramp up for the next drug rampage.

Most families have a drug addict somewhere and what do they tell us daily. “Can’t you just arrest them?” “He or she needs to be in jail”. So now Blue collar guys not only get their tools stolen but under Kurt Hoffman’s new safe place Junkie home the hardworking men and women of this county get pay even more money to give them a soft bed and a soft toy to hug.

Knight and Hoffman have their balls and need to sack up and lock a ***** up! Not your job to play social worker. A full jail is a happy jail. Pusssees both of them.
