Give it a rest. There have been a few people who were abusive, but they were dealt with. Don’t beat the drum so hard. This isn’t the first year we have represented at gay pride. There have been gay people, those out and those not, at this agency longer than most employees have been alive. Be who you are, stop getting upset when everyone doesn’t like you. I’m over the “I didn’t get this cuz I’m gay”. No Mark, you lack self control and so stupid shit, you just happen to be gay.

The jail is a great example of LGBTQ representation because quite a few members swing that way while many others go both ways. Especially among the jail supervisors and command staff. This should be a diversity lesson for patrol and SAB to include more LGBTQ people like the jail does. We should be eager to show the taxpayers we serve that we are the same as everyone else.

2.8% of the US, identify as gay/trans/bi. That leaves 97.2% that are not. You won a legal battle. Society still isnt ready to watch two men french kissing at Outback just yet. Most of us could care less about your private sex life and preferences. I think most of us just dont want to be around militants. The fact that you can do the same job as straights is a straw man argument. I'm sure child porn and kiddie molesters can still hold down a job. The best thing you can do is to blend into the mainstream and earn your way into peoples hearts and minds.

Most LGBTQ are in the closet so the 2.8% estimate is low. There are a lot of men and women who like to play on both sides of the fence. More like 8%-10% is realistic. Anyway, the LGBTQ percentage is much larger in LEO agencies than the general public so the agency should be represented in these rainbow celebrations and marches. This is 2019 not 1939.

How were the deputies that took part selected?

They were asked to complete a survey that had 2 questions that were determining factors:
“Do you spend your free time posting on LEO Affairs because you have no social life?”
“Do you anonymously bash someone you have a problem with on LEO Affairs because you are a coward and can’t do it to their face?”
If they answered yes to one of those questions they were selected.
