Once voters remove the Agency from under Gimenez and Jennifer Moon's tyrannical, budgetary thumbs, the elected Sheriff will operate under the authority granted him or her by FSS 30.49 Budgets. Then dollars previously unknown and unavailable to the troops will be uncovered and available. A smart elected Sheriff should focus on what you described as "Most Importantly benefits and pay," making the Dade County Sheriff's Office one of the better paid and benefit agency in Dade County; perhaps the State. This will have a three-fold effect attracting, retaining quality personnel and fomenting a higher morale. Let us be honest, while most of us answer the Call to be Law Enforcement Officers, because we choose to serve a cause greater than ourselves, pay and benefits contribute greatly to our continual commitment to the Call; particularly when the fruits of our labor contribute to a sound foundation for our family members. Lest we forget, on any given day, it could be our End of Watch!

Uniform color ensemble is irrelevant, in fact our "Brown Gown" was once called "Kelly's Green," after then Sheriff Kelly who adopted it. Our Badge is unique and should be retain, as it already has the required Sheriff's Star upon it. The only Statutory requirement regarding colors, is cited in FSS 30.46 Sheriffs; motor vehicles color combination; badges; simulation prohibited; penalties. There MDPD is already in compliance, just look at our vehicles.

Deuteronomy 31:6 teaches and commands as follows: "Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the Lord your God goes with you; He will never leave you nor forsake you.”

Ask around. The many friends I have that currently work for Sheriff departments in Florida all complain that pay and benefits are a major sore spot. Sheriff departments are always greatly underfunded because they depend and are at the mercy of local government to approve their requested budgets. This means that the Sheriff has to lead a charge to gain public support to force local governments to increase their budgets.

The fact is that we will be at the bottom of the spectrum. Why? Because the public often has a negative view of the LEO. FACTS people. This will be bad for us. Dream all you want.

If you read the constitutional amendment you will see that we have to elect a sheriff by 2024, but nothing states that we can't do it sooner. Lets do it. Lets get JP out. JP trained Freddy to be his mini me and the beating will continue.
