That is correct because if it were a sheriff "department," then the Florida governor could not remove a sheriff from office. However, as long as it is a sheriff's "office," then the governor can legally remove a sheriff from "office," as the former BSO sheriff learned the hard way when Governor DeSantis removed him from "office."

He didn't learn the Hard way. I am sure he knew that well ahead... It is a good thing having the Governors Office over Florida Sheriff's with the exception of Miami Date County PD. That county elected to make the Sheriff an appointed position under county ruling hence making it a County PD. I am sure they have their head aches just like everyone else..

30.11 Place of residence.--The sheriff, or his or her deputy, shall reside at the county seat or within 2 miles thereof

This was repealed in 2010. One does not have to live in the county to run or be Sheriff.

One more question: How can you (or anybody) tell, just by looking at the paperwork, that it's a business address and not a residential address? Is the building zoned as a business or as a residence? The front of the building most certainly looks like a business: click here to see it.

Legally, to file to run for sheriff, a person must be a legal resident of Sarasota County. Maybe Kurt Hoffman's defense is that he will "rent" the building as a temporary residence, so that he can claim he is a legal resident of Sarasota County. Ether way, it does not pass the smell test, but maybe Hoffman can provide a logical defense, in a public statement, as to what is going on. Or maybe not.

If Hoffman is being deceitful and manipulative, to enable himself to qualify to run for sheriff, then he should understand that his actions will be scrutinized by the media and by others. If this is a scam by Hoffman, then it will be made public.

It is true that a main sheriffs office must be located in the "county seat," which for Sarasota County is the City of Sarasota (or the postal code around it). That issue arose in the past when there was discussion of moving SSO operations out of the city. However, if you're suggesting that a candidate for Sarasota County sheriff can live anywhere in the United States, then that's poppyc*ck. LOL

    133 south harbor

I just went onto the Supervisor of Elections website to see that there is candidate for school board, Karen Rose, who also listed her address as 133 South Harbor Drive, Venice. This must be an apartment house, lol. We all know it's the business address of our corrupt run government recruiting facility. Oh what a web we weave when we learn to deceive.
