There are three kinds of people who get promoted around here, in this order:
1. the connected, usually by family, marriage/relationships. These are the most common promotions. They are protected and issued cushy jobs with no risks. This group also includes the double-dippers at the highest level.
2. the administration wh0res. These people are the suckups who are so happy and think Bob is the greatest sheriff in the world. They don't have family, marriage connections (maybe paramours). These usually get the easy jobs, some supervisory but sometimes the administrative jobs too. It's a mixed bag, depending on suction power.
3. the real workers. They usually get promoted to supervisory positions not administrative so they get all the headaches and problems to deal with. Bob needs these people because someone has to do the supervisory work the first two groups don't want.

I forgot to mention one more group, the affirmative action promotions. Not much in patrol so most of them are at the jail.
Keeps the feds off Bob's back and makes TBT happy.

North County FTO was Squad 8 for A Shift and Squad 7 for B Shift. They moved A Shift to Squad 7 at shift change. Some people on A Shift needed EAP pamphlets and CISM. The thought of that major move just pushed them to their breaking points. They threw their FTO pins out immediately by choice. That’s real professionalism and pride right there. That extra two minutes driving south and possibly being exposed to the great crime scourge of Betty Lane and Springdale was just too much. Maybe 2035 Phillipe Parkway scares them in the Harbor. Or even worse, Lincoln Highlands!!! Lazy shits in slow places too content to do nothing freaked out at the possibility of having to do a little more than watch out for deer crossing the road and domestics off Alderman Road. Good move by the FTO Program. Those people will be so easy to replace. And anyone will do better.

Both of those guys worked Squad 1 for quite a while, wouldn’t think scary Squad 7 is the reason for jumping ship...

This is a classic case of Human Psychology 101 taught in a basic management course:
If you move employees from a work area where they are happy and familiar with to a work area where they are much less so, they will become less productive and happy. No wonder these guys dropped their FTO pins immediately - it was the only way they could retaliate for what they perceived as punishment. They will probably use other ways such as sick time abuse and slower work pace. BTW, this is done all the time at the jail which is another reason it is a miserable place to work and morale is low. It is the management's way of showing the sheriff they are in charge and can "shake things up" to impress him.

No, this is classic inflexible laziness meeting operational necessity and responding with 😢😭😢😭😢😤.
You see, the FTO Program is about training new deputies to be productive and efficient. It’s about providing them with as much exposure and experience as you can so they have a stronger base to build on. Squad 8 consists of nicer neighborhoods and fewer calls. It also has way fewer opportunities to teach self-initiated activity, unless you consider tickets self-initiated activity. Squad 8 has few crime pockets. Maybe Jeru Boulevard, a small section of Crystal Beach and West Oldsmar. But even those are pretty quiet. Squad 7 has more crime and more potential for successful self-initiated activity. That all benefits the recruit. That’s what this is about. And it’s not like days off, hours or pay changed. Instead of Tampa Road to the County Line they have to patrol Tampa Road to Gulf to Bay. Oh boo hoo. And much of Squad 7 is Clearwater. The horror!!!! Same days off, same hours, same district, same shift commanders, same office. Just a geographical change and you go from 81 to 71. Boo hoo hoo. As far as comfort zone goes, change is good, especially when you have become lazy, complacent and too comfortable doing next to nothing. Boo hoo. The impact on the A Shift FTO’s was so minimal it wasn’t worth a WTF. This should have happened long, long ago. And if such change causes lousy entitled FTO’s to bail out, good!!! They were in it for the wrong reason and everyone knew it. This just confirmed what everyone thought. Bye Bye!!! Mix Drop 🎤

I blame whoever made guys like these FTOs. Clearly their supervisors were not interested in knowing who they were recommending and selecting to be FTOs. Also nobody seems to have considered the consequences of starting recruits in low activity areas trained by slugs. Yet another bonehead decision.
