    Free Bicycle Helmet Fitting & Giveaway
    Saturday, May 18, 2019
    The Sunny Isles Beach Police Department will be fitting and giving away free bicycle helmets on Saturday, May 18 from 9 am – 1 pm. The helmets will be properly fitted and given away at the Sunny Isles Beach Government Center, First Floor Meeting Room, located at 18070 Collins Avenue.

    Adult and child size helmets are available on a first-come-first-served basis, as quantities are limited. Parents/legal guardians must accompany children.

    Florida bicycle law 316.2065(3) (d) requires that a bicycle rider or passenger under 16 years of age must wear a bicycle helmet that is

    Properly fitted
    Fastened securely
    Meets a nationally recognized standard (Consumer Product Safety Commission)
    Wearing a bicycle helmet can reduce the risk of head injury by 85%, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
