Troop A 8 hour shifts
Word on the street is 8’s are coming. What do the troopers think about 8 hour shifts vs 12’s?

While you are correct Troop A is not trying to go away from 12. The brass can change the schedule without a vote read the pba contract.

There is no vote needed to change a schedule, that was a Brierton and PBA mini democracy agreement. A district commander can change the schedule based on district needs anytime he or she wants. However, an 8 hr shift requires a lot more men power than a 12 hr shift rotation. That's one of the reasons why many agencies are on 12. You need 3 shifts on an 8 hr schedule instead of 2 on a 12 hr schedule.
I know Miami and other places that all they do is think about 208 are on 8s. They dont want to go over the 16hr rule nor come to work on their days off. We have been on 12 for years here in my troop, long days, but you can't beat the days off. No one wants to go back to 8s.

No way 8's mess with Maj. Fast's schedule. He uses his days off on 12's to fly to Hollywood for a quick insignificant role in a movie that doesn't even make credits.
