    Truthful thoughts about the department

    Hello,

Current Florida LEO looking to move to the St. Petersburg area. I’ve heard some negative things about the department so I wanted to ask people who actually work there.

    Thanks everyone and stay safe.

To add to this, I want to ask what shifts you guys work. 12’s? If not how does it work, is there a bid for days off? I would appreciate the help.

The department is very busy with not a lot of proactive policing time. It’s big on social policing. You are compensates well with good benefits. A good take home car policy. Basic equipment. We work 8 hour shifts with 5 on 2 off rotating for the days and 10 hour shifts for evenings and With 4 on three off. Days off rotate every three months from Tuesday Wednesday Thursday to Saturday Sunday Monday. Days off are cancelled regularly for city events. The staff and other other officers are pretty much in he box thinkers.

Thanks for the reply. Do you get to choose if you want to do days or nights? Or is it a bid process? What time do shifts start and end?

Also is there good opportunity for specialty units?

    Thanks again for any help

No? Just asking a question about issued gear and the take home policy.

SPPD has lost its nuts. That happened back in the early 90’s. There was promise when Curtsinger was Chief. The agency could have been great. Then the city denutted the agency. Then the black power circle rose to power. Any statement that sounded remotely racist was met with fierce attacks. Like when Chief Vines said a black guy had a hold of a steering whee like an orangutan. Like the primate that’s like five times as strong as a human. But instead of being taken as the idiom that it was, it was taken as a comparison of a black guy to an orange primate. What’s funny is they only list Vines as a former Chief from like 74-80, they don’t list him again in 01’ when he made that ill fated statement. When Goliath “Angry Black Man” Davis replaced Darryl Stephens the agency went to hell. That’s when you had a command staff member running cocaine for drug dealers. SPPD has that case and suspended it. The case never aired, but it exists. Goliath allowed the rise of nothing but blacks. And it would have been fine if they were all the cream of the crop, but most were garbage. You had a black detective get into a domestic in front of the PD and then hit an officer. That was squashed by Al White right there. Certain drug rings were left alone to terrorize Child’s Park, Jordan Park, Bethel Heights, etc. The admin was corrupt as all hell. Then Go-lie-eth moves on. Enter Chief Chucky “Giggles” Harmon. What a complete gutless ass clown that guy was. There was promise with Tony Holloway. But nothing has changed. SPPD is afraid to do real police work. They still terrorize their officers with IA’s for looking at people wrong. It’s like they can’t wait to Jack an officer up. You have worry about watching your ass on the street and in the office. It’s a shit show. There are much better places to work. Not here. Unless your black. Then you get your ass kissed. It’s like the movie Office Space. You know Bob, that will only make someone work just hard enough not to get fired
