    Truthful thoughts about the department

    Hello,

Current Florida LEO looking to move to the St. Petersburg area. I’ve heard some negative things about the department so I wanted to ask people who actually work there.

    Thanks everyone and stay safe.

To add to this, I want to ask what shifts you guys work. 12’s? If not how does it work, is there a bid for days off? I would appreciate the help.

The department is very busy with not a lot of proactive policing time. It’s big on social policing. You are compensates well with good benefits. A good take home car policy. Basic equipment. We work 8 hour shifts with 5 on 2 off rotating for the days and 10 hour shifts for evenings and With 4 on three off. Days off rotate every three months from Tuesday Wednesday Thursday to Saturday Sunday Monday. Days off are cancelled regularly for city events. The staff and other other officers are pretty much in he box thinkers.

Thanks for the reply. Do you get to choose if you want to do days or nights? Or is it a bid process? What time do shifts start and end?

Also is there good opportunity for specialty units?

    Thanks again for any help
