Either way is good but a crappy low paying job is not the way to go for a lifetime just to have a crappy pension at the end.
The pension is not crappy and is a pretty good deal. You're not going to find a better pension system and you are only contributing 3% and if you stay 30 years you get 90% of your check FOR LIFE and so does your spouse. Crappy? Besides congress, name a better system? Plus ask people that you know that don't work for the state how much they pay for health insurance? If you are this unhappy, go work for a construction company and work out in the FL sun and tell me what a crappy job is. You're just a butt pirate who cries about everything.

The pension COLA accumulation ended in 2010. So the time you accumulate since then will not have a COLA in retirement. You will be on a fixed pension for the rest of your lives. Good luck with that when inflation kills your buying power. Those who retired prior to 2010 get a 3% annual COLA every July. Their pension income keeps up with inflation and then some. Those working now are pretty much screwed.

If you opted for option 3 you get a smaller pension depending on the age difference between you and your wife. And the pension remains the same, no COLA.

You are comparing a professional high risk job with unskilled labor jobs - apples and oranges. Surprised you did not compare us to fruit pickers, dish washers and fast food workers.

You must be in the FDC management defending their worthless butts. Well people are leaving for greener pastures with agencies who pay more money and in some cases have better pensions. You will run out of suckers to shortchange eventually if the economy remains hot and unemployment at decades low.

Yep, you knew the pay when you came here. If you are so unhappy, then get the hell out. It is people like you who give this Department a bad name.

No, it's the people who decided to give us the lowest pay who give the department a bad name. Otherwise the FDC would not have a massive turnover/retention, recruitment and morale problem.

Being paid a fixed salary of $33,500 with no step plan and the low possibility of no raises is considered grossly overpaid?
