911 - Worse Than You Think

911 can’t handle police calls, but they think they are beneath them. Every call they take is a catastrophe. They can’t just type what people tell them. They have to follow a flow chart. This irritates callers and causes the police to get bad and late information. And they pretty much try and make every call an EMS run. It’s obvious by the way they interpret what callers tell them.

Drunk Person Passed Out - Easy right? One deputy. It’s like a welfare check. Nope! That’s an unresponsive person. That needs a rescue unit and a Sunstar Ambulance.

Drunk Driver Passed Out At The Wheel - That’s easy too. One or two deputies to conduct a DUI. Nope!! Still an unresponsive person. FD plus Death Star.

An easy one. Caller finds his truck window smashed out. Missing some money. Burglary right? Nope! That’s a vandalism. Seriously??

Anytime someone is “yelling”. God Forbid their drunk too. That’s a Disorderly Conduct. No digging into what they’re actually doing. It’s a noise complaint by the way.

And what they consider “in progress” is anything but. Add in the five minutes they take to piss people off with their bullshit flow chart.

Point is. We get crappy information. This slows us down. Then we have to read all the crap they keep adding on calls. It’s pretty ridiculous after five years.

That’s your Pinellas County Government at work, not PCSO. They know they suck at it and they don’t care. One day someone is going to get seriously hurt when they have someone breaking into their home and all we get is an Unknown Problem call with notes like “difficulty obtaining information - using other resources.” They will waste more time telling the caller to put their gun away and to leave the house than they will addressing the forcible felony in progress.

Here is a clue. Try using that resource known as your ears to listen and your fingers to type. Then we might get some meaningful call notes. I assure you this doesn’t happen.

911 is a failure at cop calls. And there is no excuse.

911 is so bad here at pcso but no one will pull the plug. It will take someone getting seriously hurt or killed due to bad information before a change is made. Sad sad situation.

What is he wearing? Button down or polo? Is that pink or closer to mauve? Click, click, click, click.....heavy breathing.....click, click, click,click.....

911 IS a horror. I dare any reporter to listen to a few random calls...they are public record...and do the kind of journalism that saves lives.... Oust Bob, but fix this.

Actually, moron, this has nothing to do with Bob or PCSO. Pinellas County Government owns 911. 911 falls under an assistant county administrator. Oust that guy. 911 knows they suck cop calls. They don’t care. That’s the issue. Jim Fogerty manages 911. ABC did a story on him in February about how they are trying to speed up response times. No they aren’t. They have crappy training for people who would otherwise be saying, “Thank you for calling Verizon Customer Service, my name is Sally, can I have your account number or name please?” Computer prompts next line from the script. Same exact garbage.

Car1 and all the brass know how bad it is but they refuse to act. There had already been a proposal drawn up showing it would take 40 of our own new hires to take over as call takers to break away from the crappy county 911. They just wont pull the trigger.

Fly by the seat of your pants

So your answer is to go back to a method where there was no consistency, no quality assurance, just a fly by the seat of your pants questioning?

Before Pinellas County 911 became involved there were no SOP's and it depended on who answered the phone as to the quality of the service the resident received.

It appears that you have forgotten the error rate that existed when you took your own calls. Oh that's right if there is no SOP then there are no errors.

What are you smoking? There is no inconsistency now....its always awful. You must work as a current 911 call taker because that's the only people who would defend this bs. It was waaaaay better before the consolidation. Go ahead and scroll down your checklist for a reply.

It appears you agree as you clearly say "There is no inconsistency now". Too bad you don't have a command of the english language - perhaps one should wonder what you are smoking to make such an obvious error.

Ahaha Hahahah Hahahah. Oh that’s funny. There are plenty of Comm Center SOP’s then and now. Calls were appropriately taken and dispatched before 911. Now that we see it, we can clearly see what a horrible mess they make. The only consistency is the terrible call notes, erroneous call titles and a serious lack of communication skills. 911 is a great big joke. It’s staffed by overweight cows who spend half their shift smoking down stairs and the other half eating in the break room. That and throw in whatever bullshit they can get away with after a “tough call” in the quiet room. Bunch of idiots.
