    Every deputy should be assigned a 5 year, a 10 year, and a 20 year career development plan before the get off phase 5. And then it should be the responsibility of the Colonel to provide every opportunity to make those plans happen. Hell, this is the one time I would actually SUPPORT creating a new position (if need be). Create a career Development Colonel, or Major.

    Make career development happen. Even for the heterosexual white males who don't know the Sheriff and the Chief.

    What a dumb post. When patrol and detention deputy positions out number every other specialty and supervisor position combined by nearly 10 to 1, deputies working 25 to 30 years til retirement, where on earth would you move these 5 year deputies to? We got hired to be a deputies. The vast number of us will always be deputies. Sure some will promote or get other assignments, but most will not. If you were in charge it would be the same. There is mathematically no other way.

    To sum up. Not much of s chance to advance unless connected or diverse. Find a career where you will be valued with plenty of opportunity where you are not just a thrown down.
