Immediate Need for FDOC officers in support of 65% Gain-time, right now

    April 17, 2019, 11:30 pm

The Florida Senate Bill SB 642 was amended yesterday to go from 85% gain time to 65%, retroactively, for only non-violent crimes. We need FDOC officers to testify at Senate tomorrow, April 18, that 65% for all prisoners is by far the best for officer safety.

At 65% for all, any loss of gain-time for disrespect or disobedience of FDOC officer will result in day-for-day increase in prison stay. You know that at 85%, prisoners can run wild and earn no gain-time for 40% of sentence and then be good and get out at 85%. And those who cannot earn any Gain-time, where is any motivation to follow rules. Best "weapon" FDOC front line officers can have is ability to threaten to take away meaningful gain-time.

What do you all think? Will 65% for all make your life safer and better and make prisoners follow the rules better than now?

Sheriff Association opposed to 65%. Easy for them to say, someone who never worked unarmed in n open dorm

Need answers fast, and some willing to testify at Senate hearing tomorrow. FDOC testimony would swing to 65% for all, not just non-violent. Wouldn't you rather have violent crime prisoners motivated to behave well?

Or the FDOC run its prisons like the Black Dolphin Prison in Russia. Also, how about another pay increase

How about a big pay raise? No FDOC officer really cares about this since they are paid poverty wages

Because 65% retro Gain-time will also save $500 million per year in prisoner costs, so free up money to pay Correctional Officers better, with a better C.O. to prisoner ratio. Low paid or not, 65% better motivates prisoners to behave well.

The FDC management will simply reduce staffing through attrition and a pause in hiring to bring the labor costs down rather than using the extra money for a raise.

The only thing that would excite me is a pay raise. These dirty rats never talk about paying people a living wage with annual COLA's so we can survive. I don't give a hoot about 65% or 90%, I WANT A FUC$ING PA RAISE!

I remember 5 or 6 years ago my CA came to a office staff meeting and promised us a raise because the Department was saving millions using state cars instead of paying us mileage. Where's my raise Pam?

To things about your statement. First, your CA was a dumb azz to promise this to you and the staff. Secondly, you were a dumb azz for believing it.
