Ricky really knows how to shut down his Lieutenants and Sergeants. Leaders mentor their subordinates to prepare them for their inevitable promotions.

The “nurturing” only apples to the 38’s that shouldn’t be PO’s.

Pipe down, if you can't see Rick wants the chief job but is stressed out over whether or not he really emotionally wants it or would get it is really weighing on him, then pipe down already give the guy some breathing room.

Who in their right mind would want this job with all the bullshit you have to deal with. We cater to every special interest group. We have lost our most praised possession Ocean Dr and some upper staff that don’t have a clue about what they are doing. We have more police officers and supervisors doing closet jobs and not doing the job they were sworn to do, police work. The staffing problems would balance out if we put these so called police officers on the street where they belong.
This place is a mess and Dan only set us back during his 5 year stint.

You can put all of them on the street and it wouldn’t make a difference. Everyone is shut down and do not trust Ricky AKA El Loco.

Rick may be feeling alone...that causes loco.
When a leader has a solid team, loyal, and with shared goals, and operatives rolling plans out , trust me, confidence shows.

So, maybe what you are describing is the fact that Rick feels like you do...the place is in unknown charting mode and he's not with the team that he believes he needs.

there are followers and leaders and at some point a team needs to strengthen and know their places for that to happen.
not everyone wants to follow, some are born leaders and some are great followers. balancing a great team is really important for effectiveness. people know their places and are cool with this to effectuate results.

when people are not on the same page, well....you see what happens.

Great post. It also didn’t help him when he decided to undermine the Chief. Especially since the Manager and Commission will ask the Chief who he recommends to be the next at the helm. Leaders don’t yell and scream when someone has a difference of opinion. Leaders don’t violate the chain of command as frequently as Ricky does. Leaders need to be mentally stable and strong so that they don’t make bad decisions.

But let’s not let the others on the Command Staff that sat idle and back stabbed each other all to get ahead. It is for the reasons stated above that Wayne Jones is going to be our next Chief.

I think what youre describing is frustration. Even the coolest can loose it. It has to do with mounting pressure. Look at the gal from the border....cool as cucumber and decided to walk. Rick hangs in there and fir that he should be given a shot as interim. Everyone has to take time to recharge and reup their leadership, it's how we grow. So, send him to leadership training, you already stated the areas you want improved and give him the interim role to step into while major search goes on. Wayne,s turn has to wait a bit he has time.
