$41k starting annual pay, BOC vs FDC

“If you get a job at Bank of America (BOC), you’ll make $41,000,” Chairman and CEO Brian Moynihan says.

So if you get a clerical teller or customer service job at Bank of America you'd earn more than FDC, work in nice offices and buildings and don't have to deal with a-hole inmates all day, no forced OT, 8 hours a day/40 hours a week, weekends and holidays off. Better opportunities for promotions as well.

Sounds good but most CO's have a low IQ and can barely count to 10.

Federal Bureau of Prisons starts their correctional officers around $41k as well.

The CO's have a low I.Q.?? So, as it stands right now, a new CO is making more yearly than a PO who has a 4 year degree. Take that count and stick it up your azz.

FDC has been run into the ground by decades of mismanagement, scandals, low pay, under-budgeted and incompetent leadership (and I use that term loosely). It's a sad joke, pathetic, demoralized, underpaid, understaffed and undertrained. Governors, legislators and administrations have come and gone but they all had one thing in common - none of them wanted to address the FDC dumpster fire. Part of the problem is because the public (voters) could care less about the working conditions and benefits of the FDC staff. The other part is that reform takes money and leadership, and nobody in the legislature wants to provide either. They just want to hire spineless, inept puppets to run the FDC and keep costs and the budget low. This is one of the reasons that state prisons are mostly located in rural areas with not much employment opportunities around, because there are people there desperate for a paycheck willing to work for little money. AS long as FDC can get new bodies to staff its prisons working as cheaply as possible, no improvement in pay and working conditions will take place. Best thing to do is to bail out of FDC as soon as possible.
