Ex-Sheriff Israel Continues to Fight for Reinstatement, but DeSantis Is Ready for Him

    Scott Israel

In keeping with his pattern of defiance and reliance on recriminations, deposed Broward County Sheriff Scott Israel pledges to appeal a recent judge’s decision.

Following his suspension in early January by newly sworn-in Gov. Ron DeSantis, the sheriff had pledged to fight the decision. Holding his own press conference the same day, Israel declared the governor's decision had no merit, declaring it a political hit job.

In response Israel decided on a twofold strategy to get his job back; he intended to take his case the the Florida Senate, as well as to court. Early last month he filed his lawsuit against DeSantis’ decision. In the March 7 filing the claim stated the governor failed to adequately give reason for the dismissal, and called the executive order “an invalid exercise of authority. Sheriff Israel is entitled to reinstatement as Broward County sheriff.”

The governor responded to the suit by filing a motion to dismiss, declaring that he had acted within the parameters of the state Constitution, and therefore this was not an action reviewable by the courts. On Thursday, April 4, the judge agreed with DeSantis and had the case dismissed.

But immediately after the ruling, Israel’s lawyers announced they will take his case to another judge on appeal.

“The constitutionality of Sheriff Israel’s suspension will be tested in Florida’s appellate courts,” they said through a released statement. They also claimed this was overreach by the governor, prodded by the National Rifle Association.

DeSantis immediately responded in kind. “Scott Israel continues to live in denial,” he said in his own statement released Friday. “The court has recognized my authority as governor to suspend him for neglect of duty and incompetence and this appeal is just his latest delay tactic.”

The governor, an attorney with a law degree from Harvard, then elected to move beyond the appeal. He filed a request that the case be expedited and sent directly to the Florida Supreme Court, declaring the case should be resolved “sooner rather than later.” In late January Israel had filed a formal review by the state Senate. That review had been scheduled to take place this month, but it was delayed as a result of the court case, and now the subsequent appeal. The current session for the Senate comes to an end on May 3.

According to his latest filing, DeSantis stated he wants “a final ruling so the Senate can resume the process of formally removing him.” Any delay “limits the Florida Senate from carrying out constitutionally prescribed responsibility in the suspension and removal process.”

Reflective of his quick action taken to suspend Israel, done just days after his inauguration, DeSantis was fully prepared for the Israel move to appeal. “I am pleased that the court recognizes my authority as governor to suspend a public official for reasons of neglect of duty and incompetence.”

Obama’s “promise” program.... Designed to produce false stats on the true demographics of crimes committed. Massive evidence was hidden and ignored. DeSantis needs to make all of this available to the public. They are putting all of our children in danger for their own ever ending greed for power. #drainthebrowardcountyswamp

The Governor is so confidant in his authority that he has asked that this go immediately to the Florida Supreme Court bypassing the lower appeals court. Put your big boy pull ups on Scotty your going to the big leagues.

Seriously, he's not smart enough to figure out he's already lost! No matter what the red man says this isn't going to end well for Scotty. Not only is he going to be known for his idiotic sayings/quotes, now he's going to be known as the idiot ex-sheriff of Broward County that went broke trying to get reinstated. He might want to save his pennies for the upcoming election that he's going to lose. Does he really think the black community is going to back him this time? Maybe he's going to pay off another 5 or 6 pastors for their congratulations support! It's funny how everything is starting to come out now, things that deputies have been saying for years. I guess he can start another GoFundMe page before his house gets foreclosed since he'll be broke by the end if his election bid. No way he makes it through the primaries. If ifs and buts were candy and nuts Scotty would still be sheriff. Whet he needs to do is find a place far far away with that other sack of $hit Peterson and move, that way they both will have each other to talk to. Well I guess Scotty will always have the red man to call.

If he had a shred of honor or integrity he would let it go.

Dana Loesch rips CNN's 'sham' Walter Cronkite award for Parkland Town Hall

Conservative commentator and National Rifle Association spokeswoman Dana Loesch ripped CNN in a series of tweets Tuesday after the network announced it won a Walter Cronkite award for its town hall last year that featured Ms. Loesch and survivors of the Parkland, Florida, high school shooting.

The raucous town hall, where Ms. Loesch was continuously booed and interrupted with shouts of “murderer,” has been awarded a Walter Cronkite Award for “Excellence in Television Political Journalism,” the University of Southern California’s Annenberg School for Communication and Journalism announced Tuesday.

“CNN Parkland Town Hall, a two-hour special, aired only seven days after 17 students and teachers were murdered by a gunman at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School,” the school said in a release. “In this ‘compelling and powerful’ forum, moderator Jake Tapper deftly gave generous space to speak to gun control advocates, politicians, Parkland students, parents and a representative from the NRA. The program helped ‘advance the national conversation on gun control and violence,’ the jury said.”

Congrats to @jaketapper and everyone at CNN who helped put together the Parkland Town Hall for the Marjory Stoneman Douglas students, families and community, today honored with a Walter Cronkite Award for Excellence in Television Political Journalism httpstcoRQ1cK8LiW7

Mr. Tapper’s show, “The Lead,” congratulated the host on Twitter, sparking a series of responses by Ms. Loesch, who has repeatedly criticized the handling of the town hall.

“I showed up in good faith for genuine conversation knowing that at best, it would be a tough event,” she wrote. “The lengths @CNNPR went to inflame emotions & exploit pain to *put on a show* is inexcusable, shameful, & it’s grotesque they’re celebrating getting an ‘award’ for their conduct.”

CNN is proud of this, their Cronkite Award™-winning townhall where they advanced the conversation on gun control. There is more video still. pictwittercomPk6xAZZ3co

Some interesting notes: CNN set this up like a WWE event. Purposefully. They allowed Scott Israel to take the stage before the cameras turned on and electioneer; he took that time (about 20 minutes) to start blaming law-abiding gun owners.
    — Dana Loesch (@DLoesch) March 19, 2019

When the producers cued me to walk into the arena it was to the Black Eyed Peas’ song “Let’s Get It Started.” I am completely serious. I was shocked and confused — while I knew I was taking questions, we were only told that day that I would actually be on stage.
    — Dana Loesch (@DLoesch) March 19, 2019

After the broadcast ended, one of my detail had to stop a woman who rushed the stage to tackle me from behind. That is when Tapper asked me if I had an escort out. I am positive that CNN’s cameras, still operational, observed this and would like for them to release the footage.
    — Dana Loesch (@DLoesch) March 19, 2019

I’m on air across the country right now, so feel free to take this up with me on my airwaves at any time now or convenient for you in the future. Shame on you. You advanced nothing, you set genuine dialog back by ages, @CNNPR @CronkiteAward .
    — Dana Loesch (@DLoesch) March 19, 2019

Those with integrity would reject this absolute sham of an award. But, narratives and ratings. Congrats on the “show,” CNN. Applause, applause.
