LEE COUNTY Fla. - Four days after 8-year-old Layla Aiken was killed at her bus stop, the Lee County Sheriff's Office and School District is coming up with a new initiative to keep your kids safe.

LCSO said they are working to provide each student with an LED light so drivers can see them when they walk to their bus stops.

Sheriff Carmine Marceno said they are donating $20,000 of forfeiture funds, while the school district will donate $10,000 to get the lights.

Superintendent Greg Adkins said this is just the first step to making bus stops throughout Lee County safer.

“As we move toward a proximity based student assignment system in a couple years, we can establish more of these permanent bus stops," Adkins said. "It’s a challenge because we have tremendous mobility in our school district."

Layla was killed at her bus stop near NE 19th Terrace and NE 3rd Avenue Monday by a driver in a red pick up truck.

Police have yet to make an arrest, but said they have a person of interest and they found the red truck.

Add that to the current interim appointee's campaign using tax dollars and forfeiture funds.

    The records don't lie.
