Prison staffing shortage, drones eyed by Florida House

Same problem over and over again. Florida legislators complaining why prisons always understaffed but refuse to give out pay raises to stop the high turnover. It gets rather annoying the bring up this issue every year.

So fellow CO's, how understaffed are you in the prisons you are currently working at or planning to leave so?

Political theatrics designed to make the public believe the politicians are seriously working on solutions and to lure the FDC employees into staying longer on the job in the hope of a pay increase which will never come.

They need to give FDC a pay raise or its only going to get worse. Inch can tell all of the lessons learned from Bunker Hill and the D Day invasion but it won't change a thing until Gov Desantis opens up that check book. But if you want to continue to go cheap, officers and support staff will continue to leave.

My brother in law is a corporate lawyer and he described the same tricks to me in the private sector. He was hired to bring a megacorp through reorganizational bankruptcy but the management needed the employees to stay on and take some pay and benefit cuts. So the lawyers made some promises to fool the employees to keep working. Once the bankruptcy proceedings were finalized, 1/4 of the workforce was laid off, pensions were reduced for retirees and a 401k plan replaced the pensions of the workers who stayed on. The pay stayed the same. Only one employee retained his pension - the CEO who was brought in to walk the company through the bankruptcy proceedings. The lawyers made a lot of money and the employees and retirees got f****d.

Inch is another figure head, just like Julie, hired to keep the costs down and fool the employees into staying put and hoping he is their savior who will come through with a raise someday. Many similarities with the above story from the private sector.

It's amazing that Florida Legislators believe $33,500 is enough to live on when they have never worked in the prisons in their entire life. Yet, they have the nerve to complain why are the prisons are always understaffed.
