    Off duty pay

Way back in 2004, the offduty pay rate was $28 per hour. 15 years later, it's $30 per hour. That's an average Cost Of Living Adjustment of 0.47% per year. Is the offduty rate going to change anytime soon?

Not gonna happen. You see, a majority (but not all) of those working off duty are the un-connected and un-promoted deputies. Mainly patrol deputies. If the Sheriff changed the off duty pay to higher than TPD's off duty pay (since "we are the best, of the best, of the best, of the...") the ones it would mainly have a positive effect on would be the same patrol deputies. But, the Sheriff doesn't want to throw them a bone or give patrol deputies any additional perks. "Stuck on patrol? TOO FREAKIN' BAD!" "No soup for you." "Don't like it? Maybe you should quit!" "Why benefit the patrol deputies?"

In all seriousness, what better way would there be for CC to demonstrate his "appreciation" of these deputies than to make the HCSO off duty rate HIGHER than TPD's? Think of the morale boost if we were, for once, AHEAD of TPD!

    Not gonna happen

    what the market will bear

You have to tread softly when dealing with the off-duty rate of pay. A lot of the jobs would dry up, especially when the fees are added to the deputy's off duty rate. I do think it should be raised incrementally, though.

TPD has shown what the market will bear. Go a measly 3% more than TPD.

    How much?

This is a long time coming. Off duty work should at least be the equivalent of time and a half pay for a top step Deputy.

Time and a half may be a little steep but a good 3-4 an hour would be good.
