They should fire the rookie too. Too scared to stand up for a civilian to protect your job and pay? Loser.

Thank you Hector Llevat for your a$$kissing insight on this. That’s a goo-boy, your position as Chief is now, finally, well earned.

The officer is obviously another idiot with the exact same temperament as JP. Suspend him!!! Give him 30 days!!! No one will bat an eye.

The problem with our little dancing queen is that he is TOO STUPID to know how to properly handle these situations. His Twitter message was solely for the purpose of projecting an image of professionalism For future aspirations, at the expense of his rank and file. The BWC video will not grant him the respect of his troops. It is not the magic bullet to get people to rally behind his decision. It is too late for any of that!! His reaction to this incident is just one of many that have caused the total lack of respect from his troops and command staff alike.

There is absolutely no confidence in this unintelligent egotistical little man. He is the worst director in MDPD history.

Mayor Gimenez, it is time to recognize that higher offices are not in his cards. This will only continue to reflect on you and your future running for sheriff. His continuous bragging about his next appointed position are nauseating. By and large, the entire agency dislikes him. He has become the joke of the department .

There’s officers in Hammocks who think that’s a good arrest. All they see is a Stat! They were trained by rookies who don’t know the law and are now stat hungry. It’s all fun and games until you violate somebody’s rights!!!
I wonder how that OI or A-Form we’re written. We’re the elements for Disorderly even present? They give you law books with definitions of crimes for a reason! Make sure the elements are there before you arrest...

As I see it, this situation could have been handled amicably, successfully and in the best spirit of MDPD. All it would have taken, was for the primary investigating officer to ask a simple question; followed by a straightforward comment. "How May I Help You?" "Calm down, please, so I may help you!" It does not hurt at all to be nice, until it is time to be not. Remember, today, each call for service, each self-initiated contact is an on "camera audition." Yes "Urban Youths" can be surly, agitated, but dealing with them, in the worse case scenarios is why we chose to be Dade County Deputy Sheriffs, no? Which segues to this: Some where I read: "maintain courageous calm in the face of danger, scorn, or ridicule; develop self-restraint and be mindful of the welfare of others." These are more than trite words, they are our Credo! Granted, there will be moments that no matter what an officer says, assuaging words will not dissuade a hostile, combative person from forcing the situation into an arrest, use of force scenario. Then move swiftly and with technical proficiency.

As to "Stats," Sergeants, Lieutenants, Captains and appointed command staff, it is 2019 and about time to discard the 'Productivity Model!" Under Community Policing, the "Productivity Model" is antithetical, it is not a metric for evaluating officers' performances and can -- NO -- leads to frequent bad arrests, Use of Force Situations and all the civil and criminal consequences that may derived from such "Stats" driven arrests.

What is the alternative? Follow your "Credo!" Whether self-initiated or as a result of a call for service, Probable Cause to arrest will manifest and will be self-evident; so do it when you must; not to satisfy a supervisory driven demand for "Stats." Only the most obtuse among you will miss the "Exigent Circumstances" demanding enforcement action. What else can you do? When not engaged in a preliminary investigation, pursuant to a call for service or a self-initiated investigation or traffic stop, take a 15 minute signal "13" Preventive Patrol. You -- patrol officers -- better than your sergeant, lieutenant, captain and district major, know where to focus you attention. Do it and watch your work sheet reflect effective policing consistent with Community Policing's Intent, Letter, but most importantly, the Spirit thereof.

For all concerned at MDPD, let this unpleasant encounter serve as a learning experience; specially of what not to do.

    Here Endeth the Lesson!

Here's another imposter who can't think for himself. JP's decision was correct whether you liked it or not. But don't worry, soon your elected sheriff will be in charge. When that happens, he/she won't know the troops, it will be some outsider who won't even wear the uniform. You'll get written up for the smallest bs, and the politics will be at a whole new level of corruption. But you won't mind, since based on your writing you happily voted for and support Gimenez. Admit it, you want Gimenez for sheriff.

Me thinks Gimenez AND JP are two a holes and whether the officer is right or wrong you allow a proper investigation to take place before you reveal your findings. Of course when you are a drama queen such as JP is you placate the media out of fear of African Americans.

You saw the last video. What more investigation was needed before making a decision? Can you honestly say you would have waited any longer before taking this fool off the road? I think some cops believe the owe their allegiance to each other and not to the law.
