School Security Guard Shoots At Responding Officers

This guy was trained far better than any of the gun toting teachers in Pinellas County will be and still took shots at responding officers. Even shot a student. With active shooter training is Bob going to teach us how to deal with teachers shooting at us too? Do we get to just drop them in their tracks while holding or pointing a gun at us like everybody else, or do we have to wait until teach pops off a round before we can take them out?

Anybody else concerned that Bob's plan does not address communicating with these armed teachers as we enter so they know where we are and we know where they are or is it fine with Bob that everybody is working in the blind? What the hell right, it won't be Bob in the hall so I guess he doesn't really care.

Well, per policy you will by yourself enter into any active shooter location regardless of the situation. Not every active shooter is at a school involving kids. After Columbine, Leo"s bought into the idea because the policy at least afforded you two backups and a team concept covering each other while moving towards the shooter. This new policy by design, compels you to disregard any measures of safety or backup. Why? Seconds could save lives.....true enough. Leo leaders also dont want to have to defend the time it takes for three people to get on scene. For the first time in history, you are required by policy, to disregard any officer safety and rush in. We get killed doing this job everyday. Many officers have gone above and beyond and have sacrificed themselves trying to save people. A heroic choice they made. Hell, many might still go in by themselves because the old policy said you may. The vast majority of all Leo training is to teach you how to stay safer, and survive the day. Another words, your safety is paramount. This shift in your safety should scare the hell out of all of us. The public now expects you to sacrifice your self if need be, because your leaders dont have the balls to put your safety above all else.

This is all about money because the local governments don't want to spend and place a SWAT team in every school. You also have the choice to bail out like the Broward guy but you'd have to live with that one on your conscience in case the killer murders a bunch of kids in cold blood, plus the public backlash. Hell, you have the potential to get killed at a traffic stop if you run into the wrong person. Or get hit by a drunk driver and there is nothing you can do about it. It's a dangerous job. If you want less danger, get promoted and a desk job.

Shooting a plain clothed officer in the back

Many plain clothed detectives and plain clothed off-duty officers have been shot by fellow uniformed officers who responded an in-progress scene. The on-duty uniformed officers only see a non-uniformed "man with a gun" -- and they shoot and kill him, which seems appropriate to them. If you are plain clothed and if you pull out your gun at a hot call that is rapidly unfolding into chaos, people are not going to know who you are. You could get shot in your back or in your side by uniformed officers. It can be dangerous. And if you're a plain clothed black man (officer) with a raised gun, then it can be even more dangerous for you!

Regarding arming teachers, that's another ball of wax, but with the right training, it can be a good thing. Disarming honest citizens is not the appropriate way to defend against armed criminals.
