Ex-Florida cop accused of using police database to get dates, sex with women

Ex-Florida cop accused of using police database to get dates, sex with women, Former Florida police officer, Leonel Marines, is accused of misusing his badge and database to try to have dates and sex with women.

This former cop allegedly chose his police database as his go-to dating platform.

Leonel Marines, 36, misused his badge and database at a Florida police station to try to get dates and have sex with nearly 150 women over at least six years, an internal investigation found.

Bradenton Police Chief Melanie Bevan said in a news conference Thursday that Marines “betrayed the trust of this department and the citizens of Bradenton” and “cast a dark shadow on our law enforcement profession.”

"Leonel Marines was not utilizing this data for law enforcement purposes whatsoever," she said. "Instead, he was using it in a variety of ways — via social media, cold telephone calls, visits to their homes under the guise of being there for police business, you name it, to try and get dates with these women. And he was very persistent, and successful at times, in his efforts to do so.”

Marines, who resigned in October after he was placed on leave, is now under FBI investigation.

The internal probe began in June 2018 after he followed a woman with his cruiser and knocked on her door, which turned out to be her parents’ home, Bevan said. Marines told the parents he was responding to a domestic matter and wanted to speak with the woman, according to the chief.

But the parents knew there was no dispute and did not him let him see their daughter.

They later called a police commander, to whom Marines said he went to the house because one of the woman’s headlights was out, Bevan said.

The department decided to investigate and his database queries were telling: most involved women, but many of those women were not the target of any police investigation.

Bevan said police interviewed almost 150 women.

She said a subset of that group was interviewed further, providing evidence of repeated inappropriate contact.

The chief said the internal database auditing practices have been enhanced to avoid similar incidents in the future.

Anyone who has information about Marines is asked to contact the FBI Tampa office at 813-253-1000.

Exactly why we submit annually for an FOIA audit summary on our tags and D/L history requests and inquiries.

    Very interesting results.

I have it to understand that a request has been made of a certain high ranking person at locos, that has some type of paternity complaint pending in the courts by the plaintiff's attorney.

It will be very interesting to see the results of said audit.

I'm sure the respondent, will acquiesce, and settle the pending litigation swiftly .....
