Well I can honestly say, Collins did do a decent job while he was in SID. But he didn’t work any harder than any other African American detective that was in SID. After he got promoted he didn’t work any harder than anyone else of his same rank and ethic group. We will never know if he would have came this far this fast if he wasn’t liked by the now sheriff. I know quite a few people that work just as hard as Collins. People who have more life experience, more education, military experience etc, who are still corporals and sergeants. This is yet another example of people are promoted based on favoritism, cronyism, and all the other mediocre reasons that those in power use to justify their picks. I’m all for people getting promoted when it’s their due time. This whole promoting someone every 18-20 months is crazy. This is why we have young leaders that don’t know their job. But the fault lies with the agency and not the person getting pushed up the ranks.

100% well written. It also kills moral. Once other realize this, they lose respect for the agency and stop trying. Interesting thing about that is by stop trying i mean they slow things down to the pace they are required to give. 100%. No more giving it all they have risking burnout. Once you realize patrol or a slammed detective position is all you will be, you pace yourself to mentally last 30 years of this misery. All while the divers, the connected, the plant city mafia, and lets not forget the cute bubbly long haired blonds that get the nice safe gigs.
